About the role

This role is part of the Blue Origin Engines business unit, where our focus is the design, development, manufacturing, and testing of engines and propulsion systems. Built for multiple uses, our family of engines is powering the next generation of rockets for commercial, civil, national security, and human spaceflight.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and qualify materials and processes for liquid rocket engine applications
  • Work with design, manufacturing and process engineers to implement and optimize materials for performance and cost
  • Identify and apply mature state-of-the-art processes to manufacturing and develop process control documentation and quality assurance measures
  • Develop materials test plans, process and materials evaluation/qualification
  • Own process and repair qualification across the development and production lifecycle
  • Support day-to-day manufacturing through non-conformance disposition, manufacturing floor support, etc.

Qualifications

  • B.S. degree or higher in Materials Science and Engineering, Metallurgy, Welding Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field
  • Internship experience focused on materials and processes with an emphasis on materials design, process development, implementation, and/or qualification
  • Exposure to definition and qualification of special processes such as welding, casting, forging, additive, or similar
  • Experience working with Ni-based alloys, Cu-based alloys, and/or other materials common in aerospace propulsion manufacturing
  • Ability to collect and analyze data and present results in a meaningful format
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum

Desired

  • Demonstrated experience with materials and process development and qualification
  • In-depth understanding of materials/process relationships
  • Familiarity with a wide variety of manufacturing processes (additive, casting, forging) and their impact on joining techniques
  • Experience evaluating and interpreting NDT inspection results
  • Understanding of quality standards, industrial codes, and/or material specifications
