Position Overview
Engineering Technician V will be responsible to test, manufacture, troubleshoots, repair, red-line drawings and make design recommendations for electrical and electronic equipment. The employee will perform a wide variety of different tasks depending on the needs of the company.
Position Responsibilities
- Shipboard tag-out, WAF programs and applicable Naval procedures / instructions.
- Read and interpret blueprints, sketches, written technical instructions and manuals.
- Knowledge of navy AC (60 and 400 Hz) and DC electrical systems
- Navy tag-out, WAF programs and applicable Naval procedures / instructions
- Maintain QWI and associated forms
- Implements and monitor OSHA safety
- Knowledge of Navy electrical and electronic systems
- Able to troubleshoot, disassemble, and inspect electrical equipment
- Able to clean electrical equipment and parts, reassemble, and operationally test equipment.
- Knowledge of electrical systems such as switchboards, switchgear, distribution panels, controls, etc.
- Versed in the use of common electrical measuring instruments, and of various electronic measuring devices, such as voltmeters, ammeters, ohmmeters, power analyzers, and megohmmeters.
- Familiar with the use of Precision Measuring Instrumentation
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, sketches, written technical instructions, and manuals
- Ability to plan and make working diagrams and circuits
- Capable of cable run fabrication and wire way fabrication
- Working knowledge of trade mathematics and formulas to calculate voltage, amperes and resistance requirements and to determine size and types of material, such as controls, switches, distribution panels, fuses, etc.
Position Requirements
- US Citizenship.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain active Secret Security Clearance and Base Access; Candidates currently possessing an Active Secret Clearance are preferred.
- High School Graduate or GED and a graduate of military schools which provided and in-depth knowledge of naval shipboard systems, maintenance and operations; or be a graduate of a trade, industrial or correspondence school for engineering.
- Possess understanding of shipboard mechanical machinery equipment and systems such as main propulsion machinery, auxiliary machinery and hydraulics.
- Knowledge of mechanical systems components such as valves, bearings, gears, remote operators, couplings, system alignment, etc.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, sketches, written technical instructions, and manuals, make red-line drawings, and design recommendations.
- Five (5) years' experience in the operation, maintenance, testing, and repair of HM&E equipment installed on U.S. Navy surface ships or submarines to include refurbishing/rebuilding and testing U.S. Navy electrical and electrical control equipment (Including static frequency converters, motor generator electronic constant speed drives, electronic governor control assemblies, and local control panels).
- Valid Real U.S. Driver's License.
- Must pass drug screening as a condition of employment.
- Candidates must furnish their own hand tools required for this position.
- Candidates must be willing to travel, CONUS & OCONUS at times.
Physical Requirements
Must be able to complete the physical demands of the job, including but not limited to lifting, pulling, pushing and/or carrying up to 50 pounds, unassisted, on a regular basis. Must be able to manipulate and handle objects needed for installation: reaching, grasping, twisting, turning, and manipulating equipment and tools within confined spaces, as well as walking, bending, stooping, sitting, standing, or squatting for extended periods of time.
Preferred Skills
- Prior military experience directly related to the position or prior experience in the Maritime Industry.
- Knowledge of Shipboard mechanical, electrical and electronic systems.
