Engineering Technician Senior, Machinist

About the Role

Provide technical services to support the College's research and teaching efforts including machine instructions, safety training, maintenance of equipment, design, machining, fabrication, and recommendation through installation of new equipment. Assist faculty and students while promoting compliance with safety regulations.

Responsibilities

• Perform design, machining, fabrication, and troubleshooting procedures (40%-60%).
• Provide CAD/CAM support and instruct students and faculty in the appropriate use of machinery, electronic instruments, and computer hardware/software.
• Monitor environmental, health, and safety regulations; coordinate with campus units (15%).
• Recommend, maintain, install, troubleshoot, and repair technical equipment (10%-15%).
• Consult with vendors and oversee purchasing activities for technical items, supplies, and equipment (10%).
• Direct and monitor the work of student and/or temporary workers.

Requirements

• Minimum of 4 years' experience in CAD/CAM, machining, and mechanical design.
• Knowledge of CNC hardware/software and manual machining equipment.
• Experience in part design and fabrication using mills, lathes, drill presses, and sheet metal work.
• Proficiency in Windows, machine tool and die making, and troubleshooting undergraduate laboratory equipment.
• Strong communication skills.

Qualifications

• 18 months of education or training beyond high school; Associate degree preferred.
• Journeyman machinist certification preferred.

Physical Requirements

• Moderate physical effort involving long periods of standing, walking on rough surfaces, bending, and/or stooping.
• Periodic lifting of moderately heavy items (25–50 lbs.).

Working Conditions

• Exposure to moderate levels of heat, cold, moisture/wetness, noise, and air pollution.
• Occasional exposure to light chemical substances, radiation, hazardous materials, heights, and moving parts.

Pay

Compensation starts at $58,000 and is commensurate with experience.
