About the role

The Engineering Technician (REMUS Engineering Assistant III) position is available at the Oceanographic Systems Lab (OSL) at Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution. This is a full-time, non-exempt position with eligibility for benefits.

Responsibilities

• Perform non-routine maintenance, testing, and repairs to vehicle electrical systems, including power distribution, acoustic navigation systems, imaging sensors, and data acquisition instrumentation.
• Troubleshoot vehicles’ computer and logic systems, including embedded hardware and operating systems, networking, and serial device communications protocols.
• Use software applications and provided utilities to perform needed work in the lab and assisted at sea.
• Participate in all aspects of vehicle operations at sea, including mission programming, pre-mission checkout, vehicle tracking, and post-mission analysis.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent plus six years' mechanical or electronics experience, or Technical School training plus four years' practical experience.
• Engineering study related to a degree may be a discriminator.
• TWIC: Must be a US Citizen.

Qualifications

• Security Clearance.
• Person drives WHOI vehicle.

Skills

Hands-on experience operating and maintaining complex electro-mechanical assemblies and instrumentation in an at-sea environment is a plus. Leadership qualities, autonomous vehicle operator knowledge, preferably REMUS based.

Benefits

Comprehensive benefits package including salary range: $30.50/hour - $39.37/hour. Salary determined based on factors such as relevant skills, experience, and qualifications, as well as internal equity and market conditions.

Pay

$30.50/hour - $39.37/hour

Schedule

Extended time at sea, at times totaling up to 4 months per year (not continuous), depending on vehicle scheduling. Ability to work cooperatively with others within a team-based environment is a must.
