Responsibilities
- Assemble prototype HVAC units from BOMs, SolidWorks CAD models, drawings, schematics, and Engineering direction (sheet metal construction, copper brazing, insulation, electrical circuit wiring).
- Install instrumentation on test units per standard lab methods.
- Set up and operate complex laboratory equipment and instruments.
- Identify and report nonconformities to engineering and design stakeholders.
- Provide thoughtful solutions to difficult mechanical/electrical problems and product improvements to engineering stakeholders.
- Ensure standards, policies, procedures, and maintenance of a clean work area are upheld.
- Maintain a working knowledge of EH&S safety policies and regulations to ensure safe performance of duties.
- Maintain effective communication with laboratory and project teams.
- Obtain fork truck training/license, scissor lift training/license, or refrigerant handling certifications.
- Perform test unit setup according to lab procedures and test request requirements.
- Create records of prototype build activities and document them per laboratory procedures.
- Improve laboratory activities on a continuous basis.
- Implement corrective and preventative actions.
- Analyze, troubleshoot, and repair test units and facilities.
- Provide direction, assistance, and training to other technicians (senior roles only).
Requirements
- Associate’s degree in HVAC&R or related experience.
- Experience in a mechanical test lab or field service (preferred).
- Fork truck training/license, man lift training/license, Universal card, or R410a card (preferred).
- Mentorship experience (preferred).
- Regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 35 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities: close vision, distance vision, and peripheral vision.
- Frequently required to stand, walk, sit, use hands, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, talk, hear, and taste or smell.
- Ability to work at heights.

Pay
The typical hourly rate for this position ranges from $23.65 to $50.77 in Minnesota. The range reflects the pay for all positions in this job grade; individual base pay depends on skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
Schedule
1st Shift: 6:00 AM – 2:30 PM, Monday – Friday (onsite in Plymouth, MN).
