Engineering Technician III

This position provides engineering and installation support for the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Power Systems contract, focusing on construction and operational system support for electrical power equipment and fuel systems. Extensive travel up to 80% of the time is required.

Responsibilities

• Maintain and enhance existing power systems at FAA facilities.
• Support demolition and disposal of current power system equipment, including engine generators (EG), UPS, electrical distribution equipment, fuel systems, and fuel tanks.
• Perform maintenance services for existing power systems.
• Assist in developing and preserving project schedules for deliverables.
• Conduct surveys of existing power systems and facilities to assess equipment adequacy and accommodate new requirements.
• Troubleshoot equipment and system failures.
• Analyze and conduct performance tests of electrical systems.
• Assist in preparing survey reports with assessments and technical data per FAA Facility Power Systems Program.
• Install electrical power system equipment, including engine generators, fuel systems, UPS, static transfer switches, electrical distribution equipment, and associated support systems (e.g., HVAC, lighting, control hardware/software).
• Provide construction estimates, schedules, and project oversight.
• Organize and inspect construction tasks such as utility installation, electrical work, heavy equipment operation, welding, and mechanical tasks.
• Ensure compliance with FAA and OSHA safety standards.
• Coordinate with FAA for installation and scheduling of power and fuel systems.
• Plan daily activities to maximize productivity while adhering to company policies.
• Participate in self-development through company-provided training.
• Maintain a safe and organized work environment, reporting unsafe conditions.

Requirements

• Ability to obtain, maintain, and access classified information at the Public Trust level.
• Valid driver’s license; CDL is a plus.
• Clean driving record; ability to perform tasks requiring driving (e.g., deliveries, pickups).
• Preferred: State and local licenses for electrical work.
• Knowledge of power systems maintenance and operation procedures.
• Proficiency in PC systems and Microsoft Office Suite.
• Experience with equipment fabrication, prototype assembly, and testing.
• Strong problem-solving and technical skills.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills.
• Organizational skills to handle multiple priorities.
• Willingness to learn new concepts and techniques.
• Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
• Travel up to 80% of the time.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED.
• Minimum of three years’ relevant experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Experience as an electrical technician focusing on power distribution systems.
• Construction-related experience in utility installation, general electrical work, heavy equipment operation, welding, concrete, or mechanical tasks.
• Preferred: Experience working with engineers, writing/revising technical documentation for electrical systems, and knowledge of commercial electrical systems, lightning protection, fuel storage tanks, and engine generators.
