Engineering Technician II (Travel)

Technical Systems Support Services: troubleshooting, tear-down, repair, refurbishment, overhaul, assembly, testing, and installation of designated equipment for FAALC Product Divisions or Groups.

Responsibilities

• NAVAID antenna and component repair and overhaul.
• Rotary joint and drive motor troubleshooting and repair.
• Circuit board testing and repair.
• Production and repair of electronic cables and wire harnesses.
• Performing equipment performance analyses, and information collection and reporting.
• Performing equipment adjustment, testing, and certification.
• Installation of equipment and components, and modifications.
• Installation and maintenance of NAS Radomes.
• Structural inspection of towers and tower components at heights in excess of 50 feet, but not to exceed 750 feet.
• Maintenance on the inside and outside of tower structures at heights in excess of 50 feet, but not to exceed 750 feet, including installation, removal, and maintenance of communication antennae, surveillance systems, safety wire, tower guy wire pull-off shackles, and tower obstruction lighting systems.
• Moderate lifting and carrying (50 lbs.), straight pushing and pulling, reaching above shoulders, use of fingers and both hands, walking and standing, repeated bending, climbing, crawling, kneeling, operation of crane, truck, tractor, or motor vehicle.
• Both eyes required with depth perception and ability to distinguish basic colors and shades of colors; hearing (aid permitted).
• Attend all training classes as required to maintain sufficient knowledge of repair procedures for all systems, including all safety-related courses.
• Support Preventive Maintenance (PM’s) on FAA and interagency systems, in accordance with local and FAA policy and procedures.
• Support Corrective Maintenance (CM’s) on FAA and interagency systems in accordance with local and FAA policy and procedures.
• Perform basic troubleshooting of electronic/electro-mechanical systems, including fault isolation, removal, and replacement of failed Line Replaceable Units (LRUs) to return the system to full operational capability.
• Prepare FAA and interagency assets for shipment to and from field sites, vendor locations, and/or Federal Aviation Administration Logistic Center (FAALC).
• Enter time into Data Collection and Reporting System (DCRS) daily to ensure timely billing of hours.
• Keep Crew Leads informed of assigned tasks and status.
• Tower climbing / work at heights in excess of 50 feet.
• Performing corrosion control and prevention.
• Operation of equipment such as boom man lifts and motorized forklifts.
• Working from ropes at heights.
• Installation of electronic and mechanical systems and components on NAS and inter-agency systems.
• Travel up to 70%, including emergency call-outs for corrective maintenance.
• Assist crew lead with workload scheduling and planning.
• Meet with internal customers and coordinate with external customers regarding projects.
• Assist junior technicians with technical tasks and provide on-the-job training as required.
• Assist crew lead in project package reviews and provide feedback to internal customers.

Requirements

• An associate degree in electrical or engineering technology and completion of formal technical training courses is required for level II.
• Due to safety and operational requirements, all engineering technicians must successfully complete a physical fitness evaluation, including specific weight restrictions of minimum 125 lbs and maximum 290 lbs.
• Practical experience in an engineering technician support position, including:
  • Assisting in developing, reviewing, and updating engineering documentation and processes.
  • Troubleshooting, repairing, assembling, testing, and installing electrical and mechanical systems and equipment.
  • Assisting in producing, reviewing, revising, and interpreting technical documents.
  • Assisting in designing, fabricating, assembling, troubleshooting, and repairing electrical, electronic, and mechanical systems, subsystems, components, test fixtures, and prototypes.
  • Developing and performing equipment and component adjustment, test, and certification processes.
  • Installing equipment and modifications.
• Ability to obtain NACI Clearance (Public Trust).
• Valid driver’s license.
• Must possess two forms of unexpired identification:
  • One primary form of government-issued identification (e.g., REAL ID-compliant driver’s license, U.S. Passport, Permanent Resident Card, U.S. Military ID, or PIV Card).
  • One secondary form of identification (e.g., social security card, birth certificate, certificate of U.S. Citizenship or Naturalization, or voter registration card).

Desired Qualifications

• Rope repelling / on-rope work at heights.
• Specialized knowledge of FAA systems, equipment, procedures, and operations.
• Experience with:
  • Installation of electronic and mechanical systems and components.
  • Preventative maintenance and replacement of tower, radome, and cab glass components.
  • Operation of boom man lifts.
  • Operation of motorized forklifts.
  • Ability to work at heights.
  • Completion of trip reports.
