Engineering Technician - Fire & Gas Detection
About the role
This role monitors and operates equipment, troubleshoots, identifies improvements, and assists in maintaining and optimizing fire suppression and gas detection systems for the API-US facility. The incumbent performs routine technical tasks independently and may require gowning up in sterile/cleanroom areas.
Responsibilities
- Maintain and operate assigned process areas and equipment
- Monitor process control systems
- Troubleshoot and provide technical support for site projects, operations, and maintenance
- Support continuous process improvement using cLEAN® concepts
- Support the maintenance and establishment of SOPs/standards for processes/equipment and maintenance plans
- Coach/train production operators related to relevant processes and equipment
- Develop and implement reliability-driven maintenance and monitoring plans and practices, including oversight of third-party service providers
Requirements
- Associate's Degree in mechanical, electrical, or industrial engineering/technology or equivalent combination of education and experience required
- Minimum one (1) year of relevant experience in engineering, engineering technology, design technology, or a related field required
- Knowledge and experience in the operations, maintenance, and design of utilities and/or bulk chemical storage equipment required
- Experience working in a regulated environment (FDA, cGMP, OSHA) preferred
- Proficiency in Black Utilities, Clean Utilities &/or RMS systems to include: purified water, clean steam, process air, boilers, chillers, compressors, cooling towers, waste systems, chemical storage & distribution systems, solvent distillation required
- Prior qualification/work experience required
- Ability to read/review design drawings (CAD) with a basic understanding of P&ID, PFD, electrical systems & equipment schematics preferred
- Understanding of technical documents such as URS, SAT, FAT, Commissioning & Validation Protocols preferred
- Understanding of complicated equipment manufacturer supplied documentation & standard operating procedures with attention to high-level concepts preferred
- Computer literacy with associated systems. Working knowledge of process control systems (i.e. Delta-V & Siemens BMS) preferred
- Organization/Planning: Proven expertise in planning/organization/execution of project & maintenance activities, following up on results & revising the work plan for complex problems being resolved by cross-functional teams preferred.
Qualifications
- Ability to move equipment & supplies weighing up to 33 pounds within the facility using various body positions
- Routinely operates & inspects manufacturing equipment using hands
- Strap & unstrap pallets using hands
- Must be able to be on their feet for up to a 12-hour shift
- May require corrected vision to 20/20 or 20/25 based on role
- May require color vision based on role
- Occasionally ascends/descends a ladder
- May be required to work at elevated heights
- Occasionally works around odorous & hazardous materials
- May be required to wear latex gloves
- May perform critical job functions in extremely cold work environments depending on site
- May position oneself within confined spaces for inspection if required of the role
- Ability to work in loud noise environments with hearing protection
- May be required to secure a motorized vehicle license & operate a motorized vehicle based on the role
