Engineering Technician (Civil)
About the role
Join IHS Sanitation Facilities Construction to collaborate with American Indian Tribes on planning, designing, and constructing water, wastewater, and solid waste facilities. This position supports project tracking, reporting, and plan review for sanitation infrastructure projects.
Duties
- Collecting information from homeowners
- Maintaining a log of projects and recording facts concerning work activity
- Preparing project reports and spreadsheets to track submittals, quantities installed, construction progress, and payments
- Reviewing project plans prior to contract advertisement to determine practicability
Requirements
- Selectee may be subject to a probationary period

- Must have a valid State driver's License (REAL ID-compliant)
- This is a designated position covered by Public Law 101-630, requiring contact or control over Indian children; the agency must ensure persons hired have not been found guilty of or pleaded nolo contendere or guilty to certain crimes
- Successfully pass the E-Verify employment verification check
- Must have a viable bank account for electronic direct deposit of salary payment
- Successful completion of a federal background investigation as a condition of employment; applicants must complete all required background investigation forms within five (5) calendar days of issuance

Qualifications
Your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education to perform the duties of the position. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs and other organizations. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part-time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
GS-04 Grade Level: Your resume must demonstrate at least 6 months of general work experience and 6 months of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-03 grade level performing work such as: trade or craft work where mathematics is utilized such as measurements, computer skills with use of software for reviewing emails, keeping daily task schedules, and/or use of data collection.
OR — Completion of 2 years of post-secondary study that included at least 12 semester hours in any combination of courses such as engineering, engineering or industrial technology, construction, physics, drafting, surveying, physical science, or mathematics.
OR — A combination of specialized experience and education that meets 100% of the qualification requirements; such education must include at least 12 semester hours in any combination of courses such as engineering, engineering or industrial technology, construction, physics, drafting, surveying, physical science, or mathematics.
You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement.
Education

Only attendance and/or degrees from schools accredited by accrediting institutions recognized by the U.S. Department of Education may be credited. - Federal Employees earn annual leave at a rate (4, 6, or 8 hours per pay period) based on the number of years they have served as a Federal employee; IHS may offer newly-appointed Federal employees credit for directly related previous non-federal experience or active duty uniformed military service in determining the rate at which they earn annual leave
