What To Expect

Tesla's Cell Cathode Engineering Team is recruiting for an Engineering Technician with hands-on chemistry/powder processing experience. This position will focus on the development and scale-up of cathode active material synthesis.

About the role

This position will be part of the material development and evaluation team, focusing on daily equipment/unit development and laboratory operations. The role involves assisting engineers and technicians in running chemical processes, maintaining lab equipment, and troubleshooting.

Responsibilities

  • Aid in chemical processes including chemical reactions, slurry formation, calcination, and milling operations
  • Maintain and troubleshoot lab equipment
  • Design, build, and commission new laboratory setups
  • Analyze data and compile reports
  • Identify and optimize process conditions and evaluate new reagents/materials, technologies, and equipment
  • Adhere to company safety policies and procedures

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemical, Material, or related engineering fields, or equivalent work experience
  • Hands-on experience in chemistry and laboratory operations
  • Team collaboration and results delivery on schedule
  • Excellent documentation and written communication skills
  • Experience with battery materials and analytical tests (XRD, ICP, particle size distribution, surface area)
  • Experience with DOE and high-temperature, solid handling processes
  • Basic knowledge of inorganic chemistry and phase identification
  • Problem-solving skills and willingness to learn new things

Qualifications

  • Experience with tube fitting, piping fabrication, and assembly
  • Experience with hand and power tools
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office tools (Excel, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint)

Skills

  • Knowledge of battery materials and analytical tests
  • Experience with DOE and process optimization
  • Experience with high-temperature and solid handling processes
  • Basic knowledge of inorganic chemistry and phase identification
  • Problem-solving skills and willingness to learn new things
