About the role
Engineer Techs are an integral part of the team supporting the manufacture of key Enerpac and Simplex products. Program and operate CNC equipment safely, timely, and efficiently while utilizing CAD/CAM technology to support production requirements. Prepare cost estimates by reviewing labor, material, and time requirements, blueprints, specifications, and other related documents. Identify areas of improvement within the operation and continue to increase efficiency, quality, and safety.
Responsibilities
- Program, write/edit, set up, and operate CNC machines and machining centers according to manufacturing method/process sheets.
- Study blueprints, sketches, drawings, manuals, specifications, or sample parts to determine dimensions, tolerances, sequence of operations, and setup requirements.
- Apply knowledge of material composition and machinability to develop standardized processes.
- Select, align, and secure fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials on mills and lathes.
- Calculate and set controls for speed, feed, depth, and angle of cut; enter commands to retrieve, input, or edit machine control media.
- Develop component part drawings from form, fit, and function assembly drawings using current design standards.
- Perform cost‑estimating functions for new or pending orders.
- Operate AutoCAD and/or Pro/E to design and develop tooling and fixtures.
- Advise engineers of design discrepancies and manufacturing process limitations; recommend improvements for cost‑efficient production.
- Assist engineers in establishing accurate labor standards for CNC equipment.
- Identify and qualify outside vendors for raw materials, subcontract machining, and other processes; negotiate contracts and ensure quality and timely delivery.
- Investigate and approve outside vendors for tooling and fixtures as needed.
- Work with the Focused Factory team to continuously improve and standardize processes; develop and implement improved processes.
- Investigate and troubleshoot process problems, taking corrective actions.
- Coordinate engineering changes to reduce costs, improve quality, or decrease manufacturing times and oversee implementation.
- Share knowledge and corrective actions with other manufacturing engineers to enhance overall quality and profitability.
- Support development of training programs for other machinists.
- Identify equipment needs and prepare capital equipment justifications.
Requirements
- Associate Degree in drafting, design, manufacturing technology, or equivalent; technical diploma/certificate.
- 3–5 years of experience in CNC manufacturing processes and process improvement within a Lean environment.
- Demonstrated CNC programming skills on lathes and machining centers.
- Physical ability to lift 1–30 pounds intermittently and up to 40 pounds occasionally; walk to various work locations; manual dexterity for assembling/repairing small parts; ability to work in a noisy, vibrating manufacturing environment.
Qualifications
- Fluent CNC programming skills on lathes and machining centers.
- Ability to read and understand engineering blueprints.
