About the role
We are a startup focused on reversing climate change by converting excess inedible biomass into carbon-rich bio-oil and injecting it into underground storage. Our mission began in 2020 with early customers like Stripe, Shopify, and Microsoft, and we have since grown to over a hundred employees across three locations in San Francisco, Colorado, and Louisiana.
Responsibilities
- Operate pyrolyzers and component test rigs to increase understanding and reliability, documenting learnings for the Engineering team.
- Improve Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) by providing written feedback and suggestions for clarity and effectiveness.
- Provide valuable insight when troubleshooting design and operational challenges.
- Perform routine repairs on the pyrolyzer and associated equipment, working with vendors as needed.
- Maintain a safe and clean test area by following safety instructions, handling materials safely, and suggesting improvements to safety procedures.
- Use machinery and powered equipment (forklift, telehandler, scissor lifts, etc.) for test preparation or execution.
- Record machine performance data for Operations and Engineering Development teams.
- Document work in Confluence/JIRA/Google Product Suite, including providing documentation for growing our operating and maintenance documentation.
- Give written and verbal feedback on the design and operation of the equipment.
- Communicate effectively with the team on digital platforms.
- Record and take notes during tests or assembly processes.
Requirements
- 2-5 years of hands-on experience around machinery and/or heavy equipment.
- Practical experience assembling/disassembling novel/complex mechanical systems.
- The ability to work autonomously and troubleshoot on the job.
- Experience operating forklifts, telehandlers, scissor lifts, or a willingness to learn.
- A proactive, professional, and "can do" attitude.
- Passion about contributing to our mission and growing the company.
- Physical ability to climb ladders, bend, or crawl in awkward spaces.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds at a time.
Bonus
- Experience operating high temperature and/or high pressure systems.
- Familiarity with chemical processing systems and terminology.
- Knowledge of electromechanical systems and general electrical troubleshooting skills.
- Basic to advanced fabrication skills.
