Job Summary
This position works under moderate supervision and typically performs construction observation for conformance with approved plans, post construction inspection of stormwater facilities, and/or development of plans for projects designed in-house; and deals courteously and professionally with coworkers and the public.
Essential Job Functions
- Performs interim, final and warranty inspections on site work, roadways and stormwater systems for compliance with regulations, standards and approved plans.
- May assist in surveys for roadway and storm drainage feasibility.
- Independently prepares inspection reports for distribution to developers, contractors and other divisions.
- Aids in the preparation of maps, databases and plans.
- Reviews as-built drawings for conformance with design plans and consistency with construction observations and reports.
- Interacts with contractors, consultants, developers, utilities, regulatory agency representatives and the general public.
- Prepares, organizes and maintains engineering/construction field and office data, reports and systems.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements To Perform Work
- To Perform Work:
- To have and maintain a valid driver's license for South Carolina with a safe driving record.
- Associates degree in Civil engineering or related field; and Four (4) years of related technical experience; Or equivalent combination of experience, training, or advanced education may be accepted.
- Engineering Technician 2 (118): Six (6) years of related technical experience;
- Engineering Technician 3 (119): Eight (8) years of related technical experience;
- SCDHEC Erosion Prevention & Sediment Control Inspector Certification preferred;
- SCDOT ART Certification desired;
- GIS and AutoCAD Civil 3D knowledge a plus;
- Departmental testing may be administered during interview;
- A criminal background check will be completed on selected applicant if a current one (less than 3 years old) is not on file.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of engineering principles especially those pertaining to roadways and stormwater.
- Knowledge of personal computers, including Word, Excel and a commonly accepted engineering application.
- Skilled in oral and written communication.
- Ability to manage inventory and property.
- Ability to use or repair medium equipment and machinery.
Physical Demands
- The work is regularly performed in a safe and secure work environment that may periodically have unpredicted requirements or demands.
- The normal work schedule is Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. with the ability to work after hours when necessary.
- Scheduled hours/days, job location, duties and any other information contained herein is subject to change.
- May be required to work extra hours and to perform extra or different duties during emergency situations.
Work Conditions
- The work requires the employee to reach with hands and arms; stand; use hands to handle, feel, grasp or operate objects, tools or controls; sit; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; use mental acuity and repetitive motion; and walk, talk and hear.
- The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to forty (40) pounds.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
