Engineering Technician

About the role

The role involves providing CADD and field support services for transportation projects, including highway, urban roadway, and municipal projects. Technicians are expected to apply basic civil engineering design principles and construction methods.

Responsibilities

• Prepare detailed dimensional drawings and design layouts using CADD Software like AutoCAD and MicroStation.
• Follow direction and execute tasks assigned by Project Managers, Project Engineers, and Lead Technicians.
• Calculate dimensions, square footage, profiles of roadway and utilities, material quantities, etc., using computer programs and calculators.
• Continue to learn and proficiently utilize CADD software to prepare plan documents.
• Aid in developing skills for construction observation, surveying, and materials testing.
• Take on the role of resident project representative (RPR) and owner's representative during construction projects.
• Communicate with contractors and manage confrontational situations.
• Communicate with supervisors and project managers about construction progress and potential issues.
• Document construction progress and quantities in field diaries and input data into automated computer record systems.
• Attend company meetings, project meetings, and client meetings regularly.
• Work independently and in a team environment.
• Participate in training opportunities to develop technical and interpersonal skills.
• Travel and work out of town as required, including working overtime during the construction season.

Requirements

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• A 2-year Associates Degree in Engineering Technology or a Technical Degree in Drafting is highly desirable (applicable experience may be accepted).
• A minimum of 2-5 years of experience is preferred.
• Working knowledge and proficiency in AutoCAD/Civil-3D, Bentley OpenRoads Designer, and MicroStation Connect design software.
• Experience with other CADD software such as Google-SketchUP Pro or ArcMap GIS is considered a plus.
• Working knowledge with Microsoft Windows/Office products (Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint).
• Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
• Valid driver's license or the ability to obtain one.
• Willingness to travel and work out of town.
• Ability to operate a computer under normal ergonomic office conditions.
• Required to work in an outdoor environment during the construction season.
• May require prolonged periods of standing and walking.
• Must be able to lift and move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and move up to 50 pounds.
• Must work scheduled and required hours.

Qualifications
