About the role
This Engineering Technician role focuses on supporting and enhancing PLC-controlled packaging equipment and automation systems in a regulated manufacturing environment. You will troubleshoot and repair electrical and electronic components, support new machine integration and equipment startups, and help drive continuous improvement initiatives.
Responsibilities
- Troubleshoot and support PLC-controlled packaging equipment and automation systems to ensure reliable and efficient operation.
- Install, maintain, and repair electrical and electronic components on manufacturing and packaging equipment.
- Support machine integration projects, including new equipment installations, start-ups, and controls-related improvements.
- Configure, program, and maintain vision systems, barcode and data matrix systems, HMIs, and servo-driven equipment.
- Develop, update, and maintain technical documentation, including standard operating procedures (SOPs), setup sheets, engineering studies, and validation documentation.
- Train operators, mechanics, and engineering personnel on machine controls, automation systems, and best practices for equipment use and troubleshooting.
- Support investigations, change controls, equipment evaluations, and continuous improvement initiatives related to packaging and automation systems.
- Provide technical support to production and project teams, responding to issues and helping to optimize equipment performance.
- Use technical software tools for PLC, servo, vision, and control platforms to diagnose issues and implement improvements.
- Participate in validation, debugging, and optimization activities for new and existing packaging lines and automation systems.
- Maintain compliance with regulated manufacturing standards while performing all technical and documentation-related tasks.
- Support multiple shifts and occasional off-hours requests to address urgent technical issues or project needs.
Essential Skills
- Hands-on experience with automation and industrial control systems, including PLC-controlled equipment in a manufacturing environment.
- Strong troubleshooting skills in electrical and electronic systems, including field devices and control circuits.
- Experience with PLC programming and troubleshooting for automation and integration projects.
- Proficiency with servo systems and servo-driven equipment.
- Experience with HMI interface design, configuration, and monitoring systems.
- Knowledge of packaging line equipment, including design, operation, and maintenance.
- Experience with serialization systems used in packaging or regulated manufacturing.
- Experience with vision inspection systems and image-based quality or verification tools.
- Experience with data matrix and barcode systems for product identification and tracking.
- Proficiency with office software, including Excel, Word, Project, and QAD or similar systems.
- Able to interpret electrical and electronic schematics accurately.
- Experience working in an industrial automation environment, preferably within regulated manufacturing.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
- Demonstrated technical problem-solving ability and analytical thinking.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a cross-functional team.
- Ability to maintain compliance with regulated manufacturing standards.
- Physical ability to lift up to 30 lbs, stand for long periods, work around machinery, and wear required PPE and gowning.
- Ability to work safely in environments with exposure to fumes and heat in a packaging setting.
- Flexibility to support multiple shifts and occasional off-hours requests as needed.

- Experience developing and maintaining technical documentation such as SOPs, setup sheets, engineering studies, and validation documents.
- Experience in supporting investigations, change controls, and equipment evaluations.
- Experience training operators, mechanics, and engineering personnel on machine controls and automated systems.
- Exposure to high-tech packaging systems and regulated manufacturing processes.
- Experience participating in continuous improvement initiatives for packaging or automation systems.
- Comfort working in a cross-functional environment with engineering, quality assurance, and operations teams.
- Interest in leading projects and mentoring or training others in automation technologies.
- Mechanical aptitude and familiarity with mechanical aspects of packaging equipment.
