Engineering Technician

About the role

The Engineering Technician supports laboratory product testing by performing hands-on equipment setup, instrumentation, assembly, and teardown activities. This role focuses on preparing products and test fixtures so technicians can concentrate on executing tests. It is ideal for someone with strong mechanical aptitude, comfort working with electrical wiring and components, and the ability to follow detailed procedures in a laboratory environment. Prior engineering lab experience is not required, and training is provided for new equipment and processes.

Responsibilities

• Set up, instrument, and tear down products undergoing testing in a laboratory environment.
• Build and assemble test fixtures, prototype products, and instrumentation components to support test activities.
• Install, route, crimp, and connect wiring, wire harnesses, and electrical components according to instructions and standards.
• Use basic hand tools, including sockets, screwdrivers, wrenches, and hammers, to perform mechanical and electrical tasks.
• Read, understand, and follow test procedures and work instructions with attention to detail and accuracy.
• Support troubleshooting and assembly activities by observing tests, reviewing test data, and assisting in resolving issues.
• Enter test-related information into spreadsheets and tracking systems in a timely and accurate manner.
• Maintain clean, organized, and safe work areas to ensure efficient test operations.
• Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance laboratory test support operations and processes.
• Provide preparation and support activities that allow test technicians to focus on executing tests.

Qualifications & Skills

• Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to work confidently with tools.
• Comfort working around electrical wiring, wire harnesses, and electrical components.
• Ability to read, understand, and follow written procedures and work instructions.
• Basic computer skills for data entry and use of spreadsheets and tracking systems.
• Reliability and a willingness to be trained and learn new equipment and processes.
• Capability to perform hands-on work in a laboratory test environment.
• Ownership of basic personal hand tools required to perform daily tasks.
• High school diploma or GED.
• Interest in laboratory testing and product development environments.
• Ability to support troubleshooting by reviewing test data and observations.
• Organizational skills to maintain orderly workspaces and equipment.
• Comfort collaborating with test technicians and other team members.
• Openness to continuous improvement and adopting new methods and tools.

Work Environment

This role is based in a laboratory test environment focused on product testing and development. Work is hands-on and involves frequent use of basic hand tools such as sockets, screwdrivers, wrenches, and hammers, as well as regular interaction with electrical wiring, wire harnesses, and instrumentation components. The technician works around test equipment, fixtures, and prototype products, following established procedures and safety guidelines. The environment emphasizes organization, cleanliness, and continuous improvement, with technicians collaborating closely with test technicians to support test preparation and execution. Standard laboratory attire and appropriate personal protective equipment are expected to ensure a safe and professional workspace.

Pay

$27.00 - $33.00/hr
