About the role

This role is the intermediate and fully proficient progression level in the Engineering Technical Specialist series. Distinguished from the Engineering Technical Specialist I by the increased complexity in the application of technical and engineering skills and knowledge, this position performs moderate to complex work requiring demonstrated proficient technical skills and experience within the functional area or specific engineering discipline.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Providing technical support, direction, and advice in analyzing and evaluating systems, equipment, and programs.
  • Planning and conducting work requiring judgment in the independent evaluation, selection, adaptation, and modification of standard techniques, procedures, and criteria.
  • Devising new approaches to problems encountered and developing engineering criteria ensuring compliance with design criteria and standards.
  • Implementing technology within an engineering field, focusing on the practical application of engineering theories to make designs and plans work.
  • Applying basic scientific and engineering principles and methods to support engineering activities.
  • Performing product improvement, testing, field engineering, development, manufacturing, construction, systems development, quality control, and operational engineering.
  • Performing some design and theoretical work, though the role does not require an ABET-accredited engineering degree.
  • Providing technical project management, including scoping, scheduling, budget development, cost tracking, and oversight of complex projects to meet cost and time objectives.

Requirements

  • 2+ years of relevant experience and demonstrated competencies in the applicable discipline.
  • Knowledge of engineering principles, theories, and practices.
  • Ability to apply knowledge, techniques, skills, and modern tools of mathematics, science, engineering, and technology to solve broadly-defined engineering problems.
  • Ability to design systems, components, or processes meeting specified needs for broadly-defined engineering problems.
  • Effective oral, written, and graphical communication skills, including technical writing; ability to identify and use appropriate technical literature.
  • Ability to conduct standard tests, measurements, and experiments, and analyze and interpret results to improve processes.
  • Ability to function effectively both independently and as a member of a technical team.
  • Strong organization and project management skills.
  • Proficient personal computer skills, including knowledge of applicable software programs.

Qualifications

Preferred education and experience include:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering Technology (ABET or non-ABET accredited), Physics, Biology, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
  • 2+ years of directly related experience and a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering Technology (ABET or non-ABET accredited), or
  • 2+ years of directly related experience and a Bachelor’s or post-graduate degree in Physics, Math, Chemistry, Biology, or Computer Engineering.
  • Equivalent combination of directly related experience may be accepted in lieu of a degree (e.g., 4+ years of directly related experience with an Associate’s degree; 6+ years of directly related experience with a High School Diploma).

Pay

Expected hiring base salary range: $73,200 – $95,000. The actual salary offered may vary based on factors such as the selected candidate’s qualifications, skills, experience, and work location.

Schedule
