Engineering Supervisor

About the role

Provides leadership to Engineering personnel through supervision, training, technical direction, and guidance. Directs the preparation of cost estimates, work orders, documentation, mapping, engineering plans, and right-of-way documentation for new construction and system improvement projects.

Responsibilities

• Oversee all aspects of line construction, including feeder coordination, sectionalizing, economic conductor sizing, construction standards, costing, mapping, right-of-ways, and other design and construction elements for distribution lines.
• Update construction standards and policies, ensuring their implementation.
• Perform professional engineering services such as transmission line design, structure analysis, conductor sag analysis (including galloping), CADD development of new standards, magnetic field analysis, line optimizing, and substation design.
• Perform or assist with engineering studies.
• Assist in the supervision and operation of MVP's system.

Requirements

• Graduate engineer with a Professional Engineering (PE) license or the ability to obtain one within one year of employment by exam or comity.
• Minimum of four years of experience in utility power line engineering, including two years of supervising or directing personnel in technical engineering aspects, or five years of other engineering experience with at least two years of supervisory experience in technical engineering.
• Experience in substation design and CADD applications.
• Demonstrated experience working directly with customers.
• Professional knowledge of electrical engineering concepts, principles, and practices related to distribution, transmission, and substations.
• Thorough knowledge of the practical application of the National Electric Code, National Electric Safety Code, Montana Electric and Inspection Code, and Rural Electric Association (REA) construction standards (preferred).
• Proficiency in operating computers, technical engineering software, and effective oral and written communication, including the ability to communicate diplomatically across cultural and educational barriers.
• Valid state driver’s license.
• Must pass a pre-hire drug test and be subject to random drug testing.
• Must live within Mission Valley Power's service territory.
