Engineering Summer Intern

Commonwealth Engineers, Inc. is seeking engineering students for summer 2027 or the 2026/2027 academic year. Interns and co‑op students will support experienced engineering teams on a variety of large and small infrastructure projects, with opportunities available at all office locations.

About the role

This position is ideal for a pending graduate interested in a professional engineering career focused on potable water, wastewater, stormwater, dams, levees, site civil work, and sustainable infrastructure. Work typically involves a blend of field and in‑office assignments, reporting to a project manager or senior‑level team member.

Responsibilities

• Assist team members with field work, inspections, engineering reports, permits, construction engineering, and simple design calculations.
• Perform assignments that apply standard techniques, procedures, and criteria to complete engineering tasks.
• Work under the supervision of a project manager or senior‑level team member.
• Review construction drawings and specifications.

Qualifications and Skills

• Pursuing a B.S. in Civil or Environmental Engineering.
• Basic engineering principles and willingness to learn new skills.
• Excellent verbal and written communication.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Ability to apply technical skills to meet project demands and solve client problems.
• Positive attitude, strong work ethic, and sense of urgency.
• Self‑initiative to meet deadlines.
• Attention to detail and ability to contribute to a positive work environment.
• Passion and demonstrated drive to achieve goals.
