Engineering Specialist-Controls

About the role

We’re seeking a highly skilled technical professional to provide key expertise to our outstanding automated manufacturing capabilities within Ford Motor Company’s Manufacturing team. You’ll help build state-of-the-art smart vehicles and develop new technologies and processes to increase efficiency in our plants worldwide.

Responsibilities

• Lead problem solving to assist plants and implementation teams in resolving tooling, equipment, and conveyor performance issues and downtime
• Coordinate resources to find root cause and fixes, manage and break down problems into items that can be validated; determine proper validation methods
• Handle setup and maintenance of industrial bar code printers
• Design and implement vision control systems; familiar with different types of vision cameras and their programming software
• Continuously evaluate equipment for improvement in quality and delivery
• Use FIS plant monitoring software to review cycle times of equipment, review, and follow up on project installations
• Reprogram equipment for engineering changes and improvements
• Update program backups for machinery and automation
• Program new installations of automation, machinery, material handling, and robots
• Review risk assessments and evaluate equipment safety as part of a team
• Assist in training manufacturing personnel and plant electricians
• Read and modify electrical prints and schematics using AutoCAD
• Maintain familiarity with OA, CPN/MPN networks, and communication protocols for connecting to wireless and wired networks
• Manage installation and maintenance of virus protection software for controls network PCs, perform PC backup disc images, and install communication, firmware, and controls software
• Work overtime and weekends as needed

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED
• 2 or more years of Controls Engineering experience (internship and co-op experience will be considered)

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Controls, or Automation Engineering
• Electrical background (electrician or technician) preferred
• Familiar with PLC/CNC (Siemens/Allen-Bradley), VFD, Servo, Profinet, ABB, and FANUC Robots
• Solid understanding of laser burning
• Demonstrated ability to read blueprints, modify electrical schematics, and use AutoCAD
• Validated ability to troubleshoot equipment and continuously evaluate for process improvements
• Experience with conveyor system programming and overhead Gantry
• Solid understanding of networking to include DH+, Ethernet, and remote IO
• Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma experience
• Lean Tools – 5S, Kanban, Poka-Yoke, Value Stream Mapping experience
• Understanding of 8D, FMEA, and DMAIC processes
• Familiar with TQM and Kaizen methods
• One or more years of experience with MS Office (Word/Excel/PowerPoint/Outlook)
• Knowledge of simulation modeling and visual factory management preferred

Pay

This position is a salary grade 6-8, ranging from $72,480 to $162,120.
