Engineering Specialist

Responsible for the repair and maintenance of plumbing, HVAC equipment, life safety equipment, pumps, exhaust fans, pneumatic tube systems, building automation, medical gas systems, electrical equipment, and nurse call systems.

Responsibilities

• Perform both unscheduled and preventive maintenance-related mechanical repairs, including packaged A/C and heating equipment, air handling units, pneumatically controlled thermostat systems, boilers, chillers, generators, pneumatic tube systems, variable air volume boxes, and other mechanical and electrical equipment comprising the hospital’s utility system.
• Maintain assigned equipment in a safe and orderly manner and respond to emergency calls.
• Perform preventive maintenance (PM) duties on all assigned equipment and enter information into an appropriate work order system.
• Perform required testing of backup generator systems, boilers, and chillers. Must be proficient in automatic transfer switch technology and the maintenance of both transfer switches and generators.
• Respond to emergency calls and assist qualified technicians and other trained professionals on medical gas/vacuum leaks, power outages, HVAC, plumbing, fire response, etc. Demonstrate proficiency in all mechanical-related tasks to participate in the call-back program.
• Ensure compliance with DPH and Joint Commission standards.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• High School diploma or equivalent OR post-high school diploma/highest degree earned.
• Five (5) years of maintenance experience. Three (3) years of hospital maintenance experience preferred.
• Valid driver’s license; an acceptable motor vehicle record, as defined by the Acceptable Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) Chart; and proof of auto insurance.
• Certification with EPA, NICET, or Med Gas preferred.
• Licensed in one or more of the following: Journeyman Plumber, Journeyman Electrician, Licensed Stationary Engineer, or Mechanical/HVAC (Unlimited Air Conditioning) preferred.

Skills

• Basic computer skills.
• General knowledge of manual and automatic doors, including performing some finish work.
• Proficient in troubleshooting and diagnosing electrical or mechanical equipment, including conditioning/heating units, lighting equipment, commercial kitchen equipment, and VAV mechanical and electrical failures.
• Working knowledge of major hospital utilities including HVAC, EPSS, plumbing, and elevator systems.
• Building automation system knowledge preferred.
