Requirements

  • Associate's Degree or higher in Engineering, Drafting Technology, Project Management, Construction Management, or a related field, plus six (6) years of increasingly responsible para-professional engineering, construction, or engineering project management experience; or
  • 60 college credit hours in Engineering, Drafting Technology, Project Management, Construction Management, or a related field plus six (6) years of increasingly responsible para-professional engineering, construction, or engineering project management experience.
  • Valid Texas Class "C" Driver's License or equivalent from another state by the time of appointment.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with project planning, coordination, inspection, communication, and execution.
  • Monitor and control project schedule, budget, and scope.
  • Create documents for project requirements and conduct, compile, and summarize research.
  • Coordinate the schedule of activities related to the project.
  • Engage in quality assurance and risk management activities to ensure project deliverables are met.
  • Maintain the quality of all project documents and data.
  • Assist with developing tools and refining processes to improve project effectiveness.
  • Provide technical advice and assistance to City management, field personnel, and contractors.
  • Participate in public meetings.
  • Review or prepare design plans for construction, site development, streets, drainage, water or sewer lines, storm drains, and vertical construction engineering projects.
  • Check adherence to technical procedures and engineering instructions.
  • Verify survey measurements and existing facility, utility, and structure data.
  • Recommend alternatives to meet planning, design, and cost challenges.
  • Analyze plans for compliance with applicable ordinances, regulations, and specifications.
  • Assist technicians in resolving drafting, computational difficulties, and disputes.
  • Coordinate site inspection and surveying projects.
  • Perform inspections of project construction to verify compliance with contract specifications.
  • Monitor work progress and ensure conformity with the contract.
  • Prepare completion certificates and issue/track equipment.
  • Perform special investigations, including researching property line questions and gathering statistical/engineering data.
  • Develop alternatives and recommend technical corrective actions.
  • Assist with public works and capital improvement projects and property assessment records management.
  • Ensure preparation of construction documents, including design data, drawings, specifications, and legal descriptions.
  • Track project status and conduct final reviews of contractor project bid proposals.
  • Make final checks on pay estimates and contractor invoices.
  • Direct information retrieval.
  • Supervise assigned staff, including scheduling, assigning, and reviewing work.
  • Appraise employee performance, enforce personnel rules, and maintain harmony.
  • Interview applicants and recommend hiring, termination, or discipline actions.
  • Enforce safety rules and regulations.

  • Legal Holidays: Includes New Year's Day, Martin Luther King Holiday, Cesar Chavez Day, Memorial Day, Juneteenth, Independence Day, Labor Day, Veterans Day, Thanksgiving Day, Day after Thanksgiving, Christmas Day, and Employee's Birthday. Additional holidays may be designated by City Council.
