About the role
We are looking for an Engineering Manager who combines strong hands-on software engineering skills with people leadership experience. The ideal candidate will have a strong development background in TypeScript/JavaScript, React, Node.js, and AWS, while also having experience managing and mentoring engineering teams. This person will lead a team of approximately 5–8 engineers, remain hands-on with architecture and coding, and partner closely with Product, Architecture, Security, and other enterprise teams.
Responsibilities
- Team Leadership (30%)
- Manage and mentor a team of 5–8 software engineers.
- Provide coaching, feedback, and career development.
- Promote ownership, accountability, and continuous improvement.
- Support team engagement and performance management.
- Technical Leadership & Development (50%)
- Remain hands-on with TypeScript/JavaScript, React, Node.js, and AWS.
- Contribute to system architecture, design, development, deployment, and production support.
- Build scalable, secure, resilient, and observable applications.
- Establish CI/CD, automated testing, code quality, and modern engineering practices.
- Work with Architecture, Security, Compliance, and other enterprise teams.
- Support adoption of AI/ML capabilities where appropriate.
- Cross-Functional Leadership (20%)
- Partner with Product Owners to translate business requirements into technical solutions.
- Manage cross-team dependencies.
- Communicate technical risks, tradeoffs, and project progress.
- Participate in roadmap planning and prioritization.
Requirements
- 6–8+ years of software engineering experience.
- 2+ years of engineering management/team leadership experience.
- Strong hands-on TypeScript/JavaScript development.
- Strong React experience.
- Strong Node.js experience.
- Experience building cloud-native applications on AWS.
- Distributed systems and API experience.
- Event-driven architecture experience.
- CI/CD, automated testing, observability, and security practices.
- System design and architecture experience.
- Experience leading complex cross-functional engineering initiatives.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with workflow-driven or compliance-sensitive applications.
- Case management or decisioning platform experience.
- AI/ML or data-driven product experience.
- Platform architecture and shared services experience.
- Experience working with sensitive user data and security/regulatory requirements.
