Job Summary
General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, Inc. (GA-ASI) is a leading provider of remotely piloted aircraft systems, tactical reconnaissance radars, and advanced surveillance systems. We are seeking an Engineering Manager to lead the RF/Antenna Engineering group.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Lead, mentor, and manage a team of RF engineers and technologists focused on innovative solutions.
- Collaborate closely with program managers to maintain engineering support of a wide variety of active projects.
- Foster a culture of continuous improvement through training, performance management, and cross-departmental collaboration.
- Develop and refine processes to ensure engineering rigor, design review, and proper documentation.
- Lead the evaluation of software tools and test equipment.
- Participate in the development of new business opportunities and expansion of existing business opportunities.
- Develop proposal content such as technical volumes and cost volumes.
- Serve as the primary technical liaison with senior management, regulatory bodies, external partners, and suppliers.
- Present project progress, strategic opportunities, and risk assessments to various stakeholders, ensuring transparent communication and effective decision-making.
- Perform as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) for company-wide RF-related concerns.
- Perform as an individual contributor as required.
Qualifications
- Typically requires a Bachelors, Masters or PhD in engineering or a related technical field, with 11+ years of progressively complex engineering experience.
- Experience in project leadership and organizing, planning, conducting, and coordinating workloads to meet established deadlines.
- A general understanding of engineering concepts, principles, and theory, with technical experience demonstrating the application of these concepts while ensuring safety and regulatory compliance.
- A strong understanding of hardware and system level design.
- Experience in the design of passive microwave structures such as hybrid couplers, filters, and antenna feed circuits using multi-layer PCB technology.
- Experience implementing active surface-mount components such as LNAs, power amplifiers, phase shifters, and beam formers.
- Experience selecting PCB stack-ups and having detailed knowledge of PCB antenna fabrication techniques to work with suppliers.
- Proficiency with microwave circuit analysis software such as AWR or ADS. Proficiency with HFSS is desired.
- Experience with schematic capture and layout tools. PADS experience is preferred.
- Ability to manipulate data, perform analysis, and generate data visualization products in MATLAB or Python.
- Strong laboratory / field testing skills and experience with test equipment, including vector network analyzers, spectrum analyzers, power meters, signal generators, and oscilloscopes.
- Strong communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills to enable an effective leadership interface with other departments, all levels of management, professional and support staff, customers, potential customers, and government representatives.
- Customer-focused and able to work on a self-initiated basis or in a team environment.
- Able to work extended hours and travel as required.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Security Clearance is required.
