The Engineering Manager, Journeys leads the team responsible for building and maintaining the product and systems that enable brands to create, automate, and manage event-driven customer communications across multiple channels. This role balances delivering product features with ensuring operational reliability and performance. It is instrumental in developing scalable platform capabilities that enhance customer experience and support complex initiatives through clear technical guidance and team leadership.

Responsibilities

• Lead the roadmap, delivery, and technical direction for the journey-building experience and workflow platform
• Collaborate with Product, Design, implementation teams, and engineering peers to refine requirements and prioritize work
• Enhance reliability, observability, performance, and scalability of customer-facing journey execution
• Build and develop a high-performing engineering team through hiring, coaching, and providing feedback
• Establish operating rhythms, manage delivery plans, and communicate with stakeholders
• Identify and mitigate risks, remove blockers, and balance immediate customer needs with long-term platform goals

Requirements

• Minimum 2 years managing software engineers and 7 years of professional software engineering experience
• Strong technical expertise in distributed, event-driven systems, workflow orchestration, APIs, data modeling, and scalable applications
• Experience managing architecture and delivery for user-facing products and backend systems
• Proven collaboration skills with cross-functional teams to deliver complex initiatives
• Background in maintaining reliable and operationally mature services including incident response and observability
• Effective people leadership with a focus on coaching, performance management, and inclusive team culture
• Clear communication skills for managing delivery plans, stakeholder expectations, and using modern engineering practices

Pay

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $227,000 - $270,000 annually plus equity and benefits. Salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location.
