Position Overview

The Engineering Manager - Electrical will lead a team of engineers and designers within the Electrical Engineering department, managing projects and team members while performing design work.

Responsibilities

  • Performs workload management responsibilities for assigned projects; allocates projects to team members based on individual workload and capabilities.
  • Determines the scope of assigned projects and utilizes software programs to create electrical system designs including lighting, power distribution, emergency generation systems, fire alarm, security, or other electrical systems.
  • Communicates regularly with peers and supervisors on project status.
  • Trains and mentors less experienced team members.
  • Coaches and develops team members to help them achieve their full potential.
  • Works with Director to address personnel issues; participates in recruiting, onboarding, and performance management processes.
  • Determines cost-effective system layouts, quantities/sizes, and specifications, and verifies code compliance of the system designs.
  • Preparation and layout of BIM drawings and coordination with all other disciplines at all phases of project production, including schematic design phase, design development phase, permitting phase, and construction documents phase.
  • Performs construction administration tasks including, but not limited to, site observations, shop drawing review, and preparation of punch lists.
  • Defines appropriate project scope and ensures it is accurately reflected in the contract documents.
  • Proactively manages any possible scope of work variances to ensure client satisfaction and that projects stay on track.
  • Maintains excellent business relationships and communication with clients, partners, architects, owners, other design and construction professionals, and various code officials regarding the overall engineering project, associated assignments, and action items.

Qualifications

  • Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States and based in the Tampa, FL area.
  • Minimum 7 years of experience leading and coordinating multi-discipline engineering teams.
  • At least 10 years of experience in electrical engineering management and design of commercial buildings, preferably in aviation, higher education, health care, hospitality, entertainment, or governmental facilities.
  • High school diploma or GED; college degree in related field preferred.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer (PE).
  • Experience with a variety of project deliverable methods including design-build, design-bid-construct, fast-track and other construction delivery methods.
  • Intermediate to advanced knowledge of local, state, and national codes, including other aspects of laws, regulations, and potential liabilities affecting the practice of engineering.
  • Revit MEP proficiency required, and familiarity with other engineering software programs.
  • Highly proficient technical/computer skills including Microsoft O365 (Outlook, Work, Excel), internet and web applications.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills; ability to clearly convey information, ideas, and concepts verbally, written, or in graphic form.
  • Experience preparing original specifications for project systems and components, as well as completing project manuals with sub-consultant specifications when the company serves as the prime professional.
  • Experience with cost containment and reduction approaches and the capability of providing appropriate relative costs of different engineering approaches.

Physical Requirements

  • Must have the ability to perform the necessary job-related functions with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • May occasionally be exposed to the following work conditions: work near/with moving mechanical parts; work near/with electrical currents; work in high places or underground; be exposed to fumes/airborne particles or caustic chemicals; withstand outdoor weather conditions; withstand moderate to very loud noises.
