About the role

Ampirical’s Distribution Engineering Manager provides direction, coaching, supervision, and mentoring to a team of professional and technical staff within the Distribution Line Engineering Department. The department manages and designs concurrent large-scale transmission and distribution projects for investor-owned utilities, public utilities, municipalities, independent power producers, rural cooperatives, and industrial clients, utilizing the latest design software to deliver cost-effective line designs.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise engineers, designers, drafters, and project support coordinators to deliver Distribution line projects.
  • Administer performance reviews and staff evaluations for direct reports.
  • Direct and oversee work of Design and Planning Engineers on:
    • Conceptual routes, layouts, preliminary and detailed designs, and specifications for distribution lines.
    • Construction sketches, plan and profile sheets, staking sheets, bills of materials, and permit drawings.
    • Pole loading drawings, framing drawings, and construction drawings.
    • Pole loading, cable pulling, and other design calculations.
    • As-built revisions.
    • Distribution System Planning projects, including construction work plan and long-range plan development.
    • Distribution System Protection projects, including coordination studies and relay settings development.
  • Monitor and maintain staffing and utilization levels to ensure successful project milestones and goals.
  • Maintain and develop a professional network of existing and potential customers, especially municipal and electric cooperative utilities in Florida.
  • Travel to client sites, field locations, and vendor facilities as needed (up to 25%).
  • Perform quality reviews of engineering work for internal assets and sub-contractors.
  • Manage the development of project proposals, bid preparation, project schedules, and bills of materials.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an ABET-accredited university.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license required; 2 additional years of experience accepted in lieu of PE.
  • 12+ years of Distribution line design and related project execution experience.
  • 5+ years of experience managing and developing multi-discipline engineering personnel, including workload delegation and project planning.

Pay

Salary range: $136,000+, commensurate with experience, education, and qualifications.
