Engineering Manager, Billing Platform

CoreWeave · New York, NY · 5 days ago
Engineering$182k–$242k/yrFull-time

About the role

The Cloud Platform organization at CoreWeave owns the infrastructure, services, and revenue systems that turn capacity and commercial commitments into a trusted, auditable, and self-serve cloud experience. Within Cloud Platform, the Billing function is evolving from a month-end invoicing engine into a broader revenue trust function, translating commercial and capacity commitments into cleaner provisioning, operating an auditable and scalable meter-to-cash platform, and delivering customer-facing usage, cost, contract, and invoice experiences that let customers and internal teams self-serve with confidence.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a team of backend and data engineers responsible for the foundation of monetization at CoreWeave: metering pipelines, the billing data store, consumption models, rating and attribution, reconciliation and audit against vendor and internal systems of record, usage integrity, and the platform engineering work behind new product launches.
  • Own pipeline health, data-store design, and the rating and metering path from raw usage to billable events.
  • Own utilization integrity - the engineering rigor required for monthly close, audit, and reconciliation against vendor and internal systems of record.
  • Partner with Billing-Product on data contracts and consumption-model interfaces so customer-facing surfaces have trustworthy inputs.
  • Partner with Finance and Compliance on controls and audit-grade change management.
  • Lead the platform work behind product launches - new consumption models, new meters, and new SKUs.
  • Establish and enforce SLAs/SLOs for data completeness, accuracy, and freshness; instrument the pipeline so violations are detectable before they hit invoices.
  • Drive roadmap execution across the two billing sub-teams, balancing platform investments, new launches, compliance work, and technical debt.
  • Hire, onboard, mentor, and develop engineers with clear expectations, feedback, and career growth paths.
  • Participate in on-call and incident response for metering pipeline health, month-end-close, and invoice generation.

Requirements

6+ years of professional software engineering experience, including 1–3 years as an engineering manager with people-lead responsibilities. Proven experience leading teams that build and ship production data- or revenue-critical backend systems at scale — metering, billing, payments, financial reporting, large-scale data pipelines, or close adjacencies. Strong understanding of distributed data systems: ingestion, stream/batch processing, schema evolution, exactly-once semantics, and replays. Strong understanding of multi-tenant data modeling, including org/project hierarchies, contracts, entitlements, and usage attribution. Experience designing APIs and data contracts consumed by downstream product surfaces and internal teams. Strong grasp of correctness, idempotency, and auditability as first-order design constraints. Experience owning end-to-end delivery for production services, including planning, execution, quality, and operational health. Strong written and verbal communication skills; able to align engineering, product, finance, and compliance stakeholders around priorities and tradeoffs. Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field.

Qualifications

Preferred (if Applicable): Experience building or operating cloud/SaaS metering or billing platforms - usage ingestion, rating, invoicing, or reconciliation. Hands-on experience with stream/batch data tooling (Kafka, Flink, Spark, Beam, or comparable) and the operational discipline they require. Familiarity with meter-to-cash platforms as integration partners or systems of record. Experience operating in SOX or other financial-controls environments - audit trails, change management, controls testing. Exposure to GPU/cloud infrastructure concepts and consumption models (on-demand, reserved, spot, flex). Prior experience leading platform engineering through product expansion or team re-structure.

Skills

Career-focused, strategic thinker who thrives in ambiguity and enjoys working with cross-functional teams. Demonstrated ability to lead and mentor a team of engineers. Strong understanding of distributed systems, data modeling, and API design. Experience with large-scale data pipelines and billing systems. Excellent communication and collaboration skills. Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field.

Benefits

In addition to a competitive salary, we offer a variety of benefits to support your needs. These include medical, dental, and vision insurance, company-paid life insurance, short and long-term disability insurance, a flexible spending account, a health savings account, tuition reimbursement, a mental wellness benefit, a parental leave policy, and a casual work environment. We also provide a comprehensive benefits program, including a 401(k) with a generous employer match, flexible PTO, and catered lunch each day in our office and data center locations. We strive for both market alignment and internal equity when determining compensation.

Pay

The base salary range for this role is $182,000 to $242,000. The starting salary will be determined based on job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and market location. We strive for both market alignment and internal equity when determining compensation.

Schedule

We believe in investing in our people and value candidates who bring diverse experiences. You might be a great fit if you care deeply about data integrity and revenue trust—the engineering discipline that lets a company close the month and pass an audit. You have strong opinions (lightly held) about how to design metering pipelines that survive late-arriving data, replays, schema change, and audit. You enjoy coaching engineers on system design, correctness, and the rigor required for revenue-adjacent backends. You're energized by being the foundation the rest of billing depends on—and by seeing every product launch ship on top of work your team owns. You're comfortable operating amid ambiguity while balancing short-term delivery with long-term architectural and data-integrity investments.
