Engineering Manager, Billing Platform

CoreWeave · New York, NY · 1 wk ago
On-siteEngineering$182k–$242k/yrFull-time

About the Role

As an Engineering Manager, Billing Platform, you will lead a team of backend and data engineers responsible for the foundation of monetization at CoreWeave: metering pipelines, the billing data store, consumption models, rating and attribution, reconciliation and audit against vendor and internal systems of record, usage integrity, and the platform engineering work behind new product launches. You will own technical direction, delivery, and operational health for your team, partnering closely with the Billing-Product sub-team, Product, Finance, Compliance, and Data Engineering.

In This Role, You Will

  • Lead a team operating CoreWeave's billing pipeline and the consumption models that power every product launch.
  • Own pipeline health, data-store design, and the rating and metering path from raw usage to billable events.
  • Own utilization integrity - the engineering rigor required for monthly close, audit, and reconciliation against vendor and internal systems of record.
  • Partner with Billing-Product on data contracts and consumption-model interfaces so customer-facing surfaces have trustworthy inputs.
  • Partner with Finance and Compliance on controls and audit-grade change management.
  • Lead the platform work behind product launches - new consumption models, new meters, and new SKUs.
  • Establish and enforce SLAs/SLOs for data completeness, accuracy, and freshness; instrument the pipeline so violations are detectable before they hit invoices.
  • Drive roadmap execution across the two billing sub-teams, balancing platform investments, new launches, compliance work, and technical debt.
  • Hire, onboard, mentor, and develop engineers with clear expectations, feedback, and career growth paths.
  • Participate in on-call and incident response for metering pipeline health, month-end-close, and invoice generation.

Who You Are

  • 6+ years of professional software engineering experience, including 1–3 years as an engineering manager with people-lead responsibilities.
  • Proven experience leading teams that build and ship production data- or revenue-critical backend systems at scale — metering, billing, payments, financial reporting, large-scale data pipelines, or close adjacencies.
  • Strong understanding of distributed data systems: ingestion, stream/batch processing, schema evolution, exactly-once semantics, and replays.
  • Strong understanding of multi-tenant data modeling, including org/project hierarchies, contracts, entitlements, and usage attribution.
  • Experience designing APIs and data contracts consumed by downstream product surfaces and internal teams.
  • Strong grasp of correctness, idempotency, and auditability as first-order design constraints.
  • Experience owning end-to-end delivery for production services, including planning, execution, quality, and operational health.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; able to align engineering, product, finance, and compliance stakeholders around priorities and tradeoffs.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field.

Preferred (if Applicable)

  • Experience building or operating cloud/SaaS metering or billing platforms - usage ingestion, rating, invoicing, or reconciliation.
  • Hands-on experience with stream/batch data tooling (Kafka, Flink, Spark, Beam, or comparable) and the operational discipline they require.
  • Familiarity with meter-to-cash platforms as integration partners or systems of record.
  • Experience operating in SOX or other financial-controls environments - audit trails, change management, controls testing.
  • Exposure to GPU/cloud infrastructure concepts and consumption models (on-demand, reserved, spot, flex).
  • Prior experience leading platform engineering through product expansion or team re-structure.
