Position Summary The Engineering Manager oversees the planning and cost estimating functions for Manufacture Complete parts. Must have working knowledge of CNC machining, grinding, thread rolling, raw materials, heat treatments, fastener manufacturing, testing methods, and outside processing. Must be able to calculate time standards for machined parts using these methods and maintain a system for planners and estimators to use for accurate plans and cost estimates. Responsible for maintaining accurate master plans (BOMs) for all manufacture-complete part numbers, including change requests, change logs, and updates to the Planning Master. Responsible for updating and maintaining accurate work instructions, training aids, and other tools used by the department to ensure accurate plans and cost estimates. This position may be authorized by management to submit and negotiate pricing directly with customers up to a set total value as determined by management. Utilizes Lean concepts and single pc flow whenever applicable. Incumbent works to broad policies and objectives that require considerable independent judgment and initiative. Responsibilities Releasing accurate and complete MFG Job Routers, Inspection Plans, and related documentation to ensure profitable, on-time, and conforming product is delivered to our customersCreating accurate and complete MFG Quotes which set the company up for successMaintaining Quote to Job alignment during releases to support profitability analysis Reviewing, approving, and implementing Planning Change and Time Change RequestsSupporting Sales in negotiating pricing to balance customer satisfaction with internal profit goalsConsulting with Manufacturing on takt time estimates and machining methods to be usedMaintaining and updating forms, work instructions, and training aids related to Jobs and QuotesMotivating, coaching, and providing progressive discipline to team membersPerforming employee performance evaluations, training, and development plansPromoting and monitoring 6S and continuous improvementPromoting management decisions and maintaining a positive attitude about decisions and policiesSupporting CNC setup and production issues, especially those affecting job costing vs. estimateSupporting Supply Chain by acting as “technical support” for all vendors· Resolving customer design issues which may cause MRB issues if not clarifiedAssisting customers with solving engineering questionsControlling all appropriate Blueprints and customer-supplied part-specific dataSupporting management in Continuous Improvement initiatives around the company as requested Job Qualification Requirements Training and Experience: 5 years of combined experience of engineering, planning, machining, quality engineering and/or inspection in an Aerospace machine shop or similar environment is required. Experience creating, reviewing, or modifying routers and/or cost estimates in an Aerospace machine shop or similar environment is required.Degree in Manufacturing Engineering or similar is desired. Previous management experience, especially in an aerospace manufacturing organization, is desired.Candidate is required to demonstrate familiarity with reading and interpreting blueprints and relating requirements to a manufacturing plan. Must show the ability to identify and mitigate risks, and to identify and implement process improvements to increase efficiency, reduce costs, or otherwise increase profitability of the part.Candidate is required to demonstrate experience machine shop practices to accurately estimate and plan fixturing, tooling, machining methods, and order of operations. Must be familiar with lean, cellular manufacturing, single piece flow, and theory of constraints concepts. Familiarity with grinding, thread rolling, fasteners, and mechanical testing desired.Candidate is required to demonstrate experience with AS9100 quality standards for routers, inspection records, and documentation revision control. Must have a full understanding of GD&T design requirements and associated inspection techniques.Experience with Catia is desired. Experience with some CAD software is required. Must demonstrate the ability to create sketches and shop aides to clarify manufacturing requirements. Candidate should be capable of touch typing at least 40 WPM.
