About the role

The Engineering Manager leads and develops a team of engineers in a manufacturing environment, ensuring that all engineering activities are executed safely, on schedule, within quality expectations, and in line with budget requirements. This role drives both short-term and long-term engineering strategies, supports production and operations, and champions continuous improvement across processes, products, and technologies. The Engineering Manager collaborates closely with cross-functional teams to support customer programs, new product launches, and the successful transfer of new products and processes into production.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, mentor, and develop members of the engineering team, providing regular coaching, feedback, and professional development opportunities.
  • Assign work to engineering staff, monitor performance, and ensure accountability for meeting project objectives and deadlines.
  • Promote company values and a culture of safety, quality, and accountability throughout the engineering department.
  • Ensure all engineering activities are completed safely, on schedule, within defined quality standards, and according to budget requirements.
  • Develop and execute both short-term and long-term departmental strategies that align with overall organizational objectives.
  • Provide clear and timely project, schedule, compliance, and budget updates to leadership.
  • Partner closely with operations, production, and management teams to support manufacturing activities and resolve technical issues.
  • Evaluate manufacturing capabilities and resource requirements to improve production outcomes and overall efficiency.
  • Ensure operational teams have access to the technical expertise and engineering support necessary to achieve production goals.
  • Lead initiatives focused on manufacturing process improvements, including root cause analysis and corrective action implementation.
  • Assess customer designs and recommend improvements to enhance manufacturability, reduce costs, and increase production efficiency.
  • Apply Design for Manufacturability (DFM) principles when evaluating products, processes, and new designs.
  • Direct engineering efforts involving Bills of Material (BOMs), Bills of Operations (BOOs), value stream optimization, and profitability improvement.
  • Estimate engineering labor requirements and project costs to support quoting, budgeting, and project planning activities.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support customer programs and new product launches from concept through production.
  • Oversee the successful transfer of new products, technologies, and manufacturing processes into production operations, ensuring smooth ramp-up and stable performance.

Essential Skills

  • 5+ years of experience leading engineers in a manufacturing setting.
  • Engineering management experience with responsibility for team leadership, performance management, and project delivery.
  • SolidWorks design knowledge, including experience with CAD and 3D solid modeling software (SolidWorks preferred).
  • Knowledge of ISO standards and their application in engineering and manufacturing environments.
  • Experience with sheet metal design and fabrication, including familiarity with fabrication and machine shop practices.
  • Strong blueprint interpretation capabilities to support design review, manufacturing, and quality assurance.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing process development with a focus on employee safety and operational effectiveness.
  • Advanced analytical and troubleshooting abilities, including experience facilitating corrective actions and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Experience evaluating and implementing modern engineering practices, technologies, and design methodologies.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities, projects, and deadlines.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills for effective interaction with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Effective interpersonal skills with the ability to build and maintain relationships across all organizational levels.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience directing engineering activities related to Bills of Material (BOMs) and Bills of Operations (BOOs).
  • Experience in value stream optimization and profitability improvement initiatives.
  • Experience supporting customer programs and new product launches in a manufacturing setting.
  • Familiarity with Design for Manufacturability (DFM) principles and their application to product and process design.
  • Experience estimating engineering labor and project costs to support quoting and planning.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead root cause analysis and implement sustainable process improvements.

Work Environment

This role operates in a fast-paced manufacturing environment that involves close collaboration with operations, production, and cross-functional teams. The Engineering Manager works with CAD and 3D modeling tools such as SolidWorks, as well as standard office software including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook. The position requires regular interaction with fabrication and machine shop operations, sheet metal processes, and production lines. Work typically involves a combination of office-based engineering activities and on-floor support for manufacturing processes, with a strong emphasis on safety, quality, and operational effectiveness.

Pay

The pay range for this position is $120,000.00 - $150,000.00/yr. Individual compensation offered within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
