Engineering Leader - Plant 10

About the Role

This Advanced Manufacturing Engineering Leader position will be located in our Plant 10, Whitehall Casting Operation and will support manufacturing by leading and providing focused projects that improve throughput, reduce inventory, and reduce operating expenses. The role involves leading employees to drive labor cost reductions through cellular manufacturing and new or improved methods and equipment. The position requires applying standard practices and techniques, adjusting and correlating data, recognizing discrepancies in results, and taking corrective action. Documentation of work and preparation of technical notes or reports, as well as establishing customer contacts (internal and external), are key responsibilities.

Responsibilities

• Lead initiatives to achieve product yield improvements, variation reduction, and cost reduction goals related to the manufacture of ceramic cores and parts.
• Direct and manage activities regarding product tool and part designs and standards.
• Manage and direct the New Product Introduction (NPI) initiative, ensuring product development aligns with project timelines, budget, and quoted standards.
• Develop the overall plant scrap reduction plan and manage initiatives to meet scrap targets.
• Direct and participate in the conception, evaluation, and implementation of cost improvement, product improvement, and production problem-solving activities.
• Establish professional working relationships with Engineering Managers and teams at each casting facility, promoting communication regarding product status and issues.
• Work directly with engine manufacturers’ engineering teams to optimize core design and producibility.
• Foster an environment of engagement and development for Engineering Staff.
• Manage training development strategies for the Engineering Staff.

Key roles include:

• Customer Liaison: Understand and communicate customer specifications; serve as the first point of contact for technical requirements internally and externally.
• Creative Facilitator: Solve problems creatively, foster continuous improvement, and push boundaries of technology and processes.
• Boundary Spanner: Take initiative across disciplines and operations, collaborate intentionally, and eliminate barriers or silos.
• Developer: Mentor and coach associates, stimulate learning, and educate others on technical requirements.
• Communication: Handle difficult conversations diplomatically, clarify expectations, and simplify complex information.
• Influence: Create an engaging environment, advocate for the business, and manage conflict effectively.
• Business-Minded: Focus on quantifiable business outcomes, ensure quality, and manage customer demand.
• Adaptable: Cope with change, address distractions quickly, and handle unexpected challenges without losing sight of objectives.

Requirements

Basic Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering from an accredited institution.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in manufacturing.
• Minimum of 1 year of leadership experience.
• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States; verification of employment will be required at the time of hire. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in Continuous Improvement, Waste Elimination, and Kaizen.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving (e.g., 5 Why, Trucker’s Log, A3 Thinking), interpersonal, organizational, and negotiation skills.
• Strong leadership skills that create an engaged employee environment.
• Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from customers, managers, and employees.
• Experience reading blueprints.
• Proficiency with CAD software.
• Ability to analyze time studies to set labor standards and mechanical aptitude for evaluating new equipment.
• Experience providing technical leadership and guidance in manufacturing.
• Experience in the investment casting industry.
• Good financial literacy.
