On-siteEngineeringInternship
About the role
Engineering Interns at The Boring Company are given responsibilities comparable to those of regular employees. The company values 'ownership', expecting interns to take charge of their projects. Interns will work in a dynamic environment where everyone collaborates towards the goal of transforming transportation.
Responsibilities
- Mechanical Engineering (Bastrop & Vegas): Design or support the design of various systems and sub-systems related to operations such as boring machine parts, support systems, support system equipment, tunnel segment production, passenger/construction vehicles and tunnel infrastructure.
- Electrical Engineering (Bastrop & Vegas): Assist in the design, implementation, and maintenance of electrical instrumentation in tunnels and on tunnel boring machines.
- Software Engineering (Bastrop & Vegas): In Bastrop, help build automation and application software for the next generation of tunnel boring machines (TBM), used to build new underground transportation systems and Hyperloops. Focus on designing and implementing tools to operate, analyze, and control TBM's. In Vegas, help build a new underground transportation system: the Las Vegas Loop. Focus on designing and developing tools for collecting, analyzing, and displaying insightful data and graphs for the Las Vegas Loop.
- Civil Engineering (Bastrop & Vegas): Utilize AutoCAD Civil 3D to assist in the preparation of civil engineering details, design plans, reports, and meeting exhibits.
- Test Engineering (Bastrop Only): Design and conduct experiments to optimize the tunneling process and machine reliability.
- Integration Engineering (Bastrop Only): Review and provide feedback on designs for performance, manufacturability, and simplicity. Determine critical path of project schedules and drive development and implementation on those critical items.
- Field Engineering Operations (Vegas Only): Track and report on daily activities in the tunnel and on the launch site. Assist with site surveying and determining site conditions for in-ground infrastructure.
Requirements
Pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Civil Engineering or a related field. Prior experience in mechanical, software, electrical, or construction projects (industry or school).
Qualifications
- Strong teamwork skills with a proven ability to effectively interact and collaborate with other engineering disciplines.
- Acute attention to detail.
- Previous internship experience or participation in Not-a-Boring-Competition is a plus.
