Engineering Intern, Research & Development
About the role
We are seeking a motivated Engineering Intern to join our Research & Development team in Interventional Urology. This position provides hands-on experience supporting product development through design verification (DV) testing, bench testing, and laboratory evaluation of medical devices. The intern will work closely with cross-functional teams to execute test protocols, collect and analyze data, and support development activities including fixture and test method development.
Responsibilities
- Execute design verification (DV) testing per established protocols, ensuring adherence to procedures and documentation requirements
- Perform mechanical testing, simulated use testing, and functional evaluation of devices
- Set up and operate bench test equipment, including development and modification of test setups and fixtures as needed
- Collect, document, and organize test data in accordance with Good Documentation Practices (GDP)
- Perform data analysis using Excel; support data trending and reporting (Minitab experience a plus)
- Assist with test method development and improvement, including supporting fixture design (3D printing experience a plus)
- Contribute to technical reports and documentation summarizing test results
- Collaborate with cross-functional team members (R&D, Quality, Manufacturing) to support ongoing projects
- Maintain a safe and organized laboratory environment
Requirements
- Currently student or recent graduate pursuing degree in Mechanical, Biomedical, or related engineering field
- Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above
- Familiarity with basic lab equipment (e.g., calipers, microscopes, mechanical test systems)
- Experience with Microsoft Excel required
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow protocols and SOPs precisely
- Effective communication skills and ability to work in a collaborative team environment
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks
- Willingness to learn and contribute in a hands-on engineering environment
Specialized Skills / Other Requirements
- One year of medical device or other related design experience preferred
- Previous hands-on laboratory or project experience preferred
- Prior experience with Minitab preferred
- Experience with 3D printing and/or SolidWorks preferred
Pay
The pay range for this position at commencement of employment is expected to be between $23.50 and $26.00 per hour; however, base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
