About the role
The Engineering Intern will be a member of the natural gas engineering team and work with design engineers and drafters to research, prepare, design, and document capital construction on a variety of projects, contributing to the modernization and advancement of our natural gas distribution system.
Responsibilities
- Assist designers with day-to-day project duties producing construction document deliverables for natural gas system projects.
- Assist with hydraulic analysis studies to determine design parameters for engineering of natural gas systems using company Gas Modeling Software (in-house training provided).
- Perform occasional field work to review construction for compliance with company standards.
- Maintain accurate records related to installation and monitoring of gas systems, including pipeline inspections, excavations, as-built drawings, and easements, coordinating with the Company’s GIS department.
- Research historical installation and repair documentation on existing facilities.
- Update Access databases and Excel spreadsheets concerning project status.
Requirements
- Currently enrolled as a full-time student (sophomore, junior, or senior preferred) with a strong GPA pursuing an ABET-accredited Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering.
Skills
- Demonstrated technical and analytical capability.
- Proficient computer skills with Microsoft Office, Autodesk/Civil-3D, and various modeling/simulation programs; ability to quickly learn new software.
- Strong teamwork, collaboration, and interpersonal skills; ability to work effectively with engineering offices and local district offices.
- High attention to detail and willingness to develop a strong understanding of natural gas system principles and design standards.
- Project design knowledge and ability to follow through with approved plans while adapting to necessary changes.
- Excellent organizational and planning skills with a focus on quality and thoroughness.
- Basic engineering knowledge, including strong mathematical proficiency and experience with CAD, modeling, or GIS software.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including technical writing.
- Ability to accept feedback and work closely with leadership on all projects.
- Personal initiative and motivation to seek guidance when needed.
