Engineering Intern
About the role
Pace offers careers as a support tooling engineer with daily production and die repair responsibilities. This includes troubleshooting die and casting issues, contacting outside vendors for repairs, performing thermal analysis, updating die cooling diagrams, conducting casting cycle time studies, assisting process technicians, performing inventory checks, assisting with preventative maintenance, updating CNC tooling documentation, comparing CNC machining jobs, creating and modifying Flag Maps, and training in Pro-engineer CREO CAD software.
Responsibilities
- Support tooling engineer with daily production and die repair.
- Includes troubleshooting die issues, casting issues and contacting outside vendors for repair.
- Perform thermal analysis studies on tooling and casting processes to assist with identifying heat concentration areas, tooling wear trends, and opportunities to improve cooling and spray configurations.
- Update existing die cooling diagram to capture current processes.
- Conduct casting cycle time studies on all die casting production jobs to identify inefficiencies and detect deviation from setup or quoted cycle time.
- Aid process technicians with process troubleshooting, parameter adjustments, startup activities, and process validation during production runs.
- Includes weighing casting shots, measuring biscuit sizes and correcting outdated conductor information.
- Assist with preventative maintenance and repair activities for CNC machining fixtures used in secondary operations.
- Includes repairing clamps, replacing O-rings and fittings, and testing hydraulic circuits for leaks.
- Update CNC tooling documentation, tooling lists, and setup sheets.
- Compare related CNC machining jobs and combine/eliminate multiple tools of the same type to reduce tool crib inventory.
- Assist in development and revision of engineering documentation, work instructions, and process standards.
- Includes helping with process/documentation for HD KOTB project that is currently being implemented.
- Create and modify Flag Maps for cosmetic parts to assist quality department & KEI in defect tracking.
- Continue training with Pro-engineer CREO CAD software to assist in any 3D modelling needed on a daily basis.
Qualifications
To succeed in this role, you should have a strong background in die casting and mechanical engineering. Experience with thermal analysis, CNC machining, and Pro-engineer CREO CAD software is preferred. Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail are essential.
