About the role

This is a grant-funded position consisting of a 9-month academic year contract plus additional summer compensation through May 2031. Reports directly to the Engineering Chair; status is exempt and full-time.

Responsibilities

  • Instruct students according to the master course schedule, degree plans, and curricula approved by the Curriculum Committee and the Vice President of Academic Affairs.
  • Teach a maximum of thirty (30) credits per academic year (fall/spring).
  • Design, develop, and provide instruction via classroom/laboratory, online learning, and learning communities.
  • Adhere to the course cancellation policy as stated in the UTTC Faculty Handbook.
  • Develop culturally responsive curricula, lesson plans, and course materials that identify student competencies and align with industry employment needs; break down content into steps and demonstrate concepts to enhance learning.
  • Update and upload course syllabi each semester to the designated system.
  • Monitor and report student attendance and academic progress weekly in the Jenzabar system and use Early Alert interventions to ensure student success.
  • Engage in departmental assessment at the course, program, and institutional learning outcome levels to increase student learning.
  • Schedule and post a minimum of ten (10) office hours on campus per week at times convenient to students, on at least four days each week.
  • Serve as academic advisor or professional tutor during scheduled office hours, depending on department role.
  • Share student club advising responsibilities, which may include evening and weekend commitments; may include mentoring students in research activities.
  • Participate in career fairs, retention activities, new student orientation, and other student events.
  • Participate in college-sponsored professional development and in department, division, and faculty meetings.
  • Comply with college policies, plans, and procedures, including wearing academic cap and gown at commencement activities.
  • Commit to two (2) months of summer employment to mentor student research, conduct engineering outreach to enhance recruitment, and complete other tasks as assigned by the Engineering Chair/CREATES PI.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in an Engineering discipline or a bachelor’s degree in an Engineering discipline with a minimum of 18 graduate credits in Engineering from a regionally accredited institution of higher education.
  • PhD in Engineering preferred.
  • Two (2) years of successful college instruction in engineering or a related field.

Knowledge & Skills

  • Overall understanding of academic program outcomes.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of American Indian Tribes, cultures, and histories.

Salary

$58,000 plus two months of summer compensation.
