Engineering Inspector II

Responsibilities

• Responsible for projects in the Public Works Division or sewer, water, and solid waste projects in the Utilities Division.
• Supervise and perform inspections of assigned projects to ensure compliance with contract documents, approved design plans, and specifications, and applicable regulations.
• Read and interpret design plans and specifications.
• Make field changes that do not alter the scope and cost of construction.
• Schedule and observe contractor’s materials, structure, and process tests and evaluations.
• Maintain records and prepare inspector reports.
• Assume joint responsibility for supervising the inspection function in the absence of the assigned supervisor.

Requirements

• Graduation from high school or equivalent with four years of appropriate engineering experience or construction experience based on area of assignment.
• A valid Driver's License and obtain a Florida Driver's License by date of hire.
• Completion of the Contractor's Underground Utility Examination for inspectors or completion within six months of entry into the position.
• The ability to communicate with the general public while discussing, explaining, and interpreting standards and codes.

Preferences

• Experience in construction, inspection, engineering plan reading, permitting, right-of-way maintenance, construction equipment operation, and/or engineering coursework/education.

Qualifications

• Engineering Inspector II: Graduation from high school or equivalent and four years of appropriate engineering experience or construction experience based on area of assignment; or an equivalent combination of related education, training or experience.
