Duties and Responsibilities
- Develops design solutions for assigned structural products and components, including layouts, sketches, and blueprints.
- Investigates design factors such as damage tolerance, durability, and structural modeling.
- Details related structural assemblies, mechanisms, and devices.
- Interacts with engineering staff on design concepts, progress, and issues.
- Validates conformity to design standards and specifications, identifies design errors and other deficiencies, and recommends changes.
- Prepares documentation and technical design presentations to engineering staff as required.
- Remains current in CAD techniques and applicable engineering design software.
- Works on assignments defined in terms of specific tasks, which are reviewed regularly for adequacy in meeting objectives.
- Maintains regular intra-organizational contact and may have some customer contact.
Qualifications
- Typically requires an Associates degree or a certificate from a recognized organization indicating completion of training in SolidWorks and CREO design software plus eight or more years of progressive experience utilizing CAD software.
- Additional education may be substituted in lieu of work experience.
- Must have an understanding of engineering design concepts and principles and possess the ability to understand new concepts quickly, applying them accurately throughout an evolving environment.
- Must have some working knowledge of GD&T and ASME Y14.1, ASME Y14.2, ASME Y14.3, ASME Y14.5, and ASME Y14.34.
- Must be able to organize, schedule, and coordinate work phases.
- Must also be able to determine the appropriate approach at the task level or, with assistance, at the project level to provide solutions to a range of difficult problems.
- Must have good communication, documentation, presentation, and interpersonal skills, and excellent computer skills.
- Must be able to work independently and as part of a team and be able to work extended hours as required.
- Must be customer focused and able to work on a self-initiated basis or in a team environment and able to work extended hours and travel as required.
- Able to obtain and maintain a DoD security clearance is required.
