Job Summary
General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, Inc. (GA-ASI) is a leader in unmanned aerial systems and tactical reconnaissance radars. The Engineering Designer II on the Actuated Systems Team designs innovative actuation and mechanism solutions for customer success.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Support the design, analysis, testing, integration, manufacturing, and fielding of various types of aircraft actuated systems, including electromechanical actuators, flight control mechanisms, deployment systems and related components.
- Contribute to the completion of component, assembly, and system design and analysis, documenting findings.
- Collaborate on new designs and assist the team with drawing package completion.
- Maintain currency in CAD techniques, ANSI Y14.5 drawing principles, and applicable engineering design software applications.
- Collaborate and interact with peers, management, and other engineering disciplines on technical matters.
- Prepare and review engineering documentation for delivery to peers, technical staff, executive management, and customers.
- Support the engineering team by defining and executing creative solutions to engineering design challenges of moderate scope and complexity.
- Work either individually or in a team environment.
- Maintain strict confidentiality of sensitive information.
- Observe all laws, regulations, and other applicable obligations.
- Work in a safe manner in accordance with established operating procedures and practices.
- Perform additional functions as assigned or required.
Qualifications
- Typically requires an Associates degree or a certificate from a recognized organization indicating completion of training in a CAD design software plus ten or more years of progressive experience utilizing CAD software, preferably with experience working with CREO, Windchill, NX, and Teamcenter.
- Additional education may be substituted in lieu of work experience.
- Must be able to determine the appropriate approach at the task level or, with assistance, at the project level to provide solutions to a range of complex problems.
- Must have good communication, documentation, presentation, and interpersonal skills, and excellent computer skills.
- Must be able to work independently and as part of a team and be able to work extended hours as required.
- Able to obtain and maintain DOD Security Clearance is required.
- A thirst for learning about new products and concepts.
Other Qualifications
- Understanding of a wide range of engineering concepts, principles, codes, and theory;
- Experience demonstrating a broad application of those concepts;
- Continuously expanding knowledge of principles, concepts, theory, and practices in related technical specialties;
- Experience with assembling mechanical systems;
- A&P or technician experience is a plus;
- Experience with kinematic motion study using a CAD tool is a plus.
