About the Role

The M&T Solutions Architect designs and governs the technical solutions that power the client's Manufacturing & Technology's (M&T) Digital Solutions and AI portfolio. Working within the Digital & AI Strategy / Information Systems & Technology (IS&T) function, the architect translates business and functional requirements into scalable, secure, and cost-effective solution designs spanning applications, data, integration, cloud, and AI/ML platforms. The role provides architectural leadership across the full solution lifecycle — from concept and design through implementation and adoption — ensuring solutions align with enterprise architecture standards, information-security and data-governance requirements, and M&T's digital strategy.

Responsibilities

  • Define end-to-end solution architecture for M&T Digital Solutions and AI initiatives, translating business requirements into technical designs across application, data, integration, cloud, and AI/ML components.
  • Provide architectural direction to development teams, vendors, and project teams; review and approve technical designs to ensure quality, scalability, security, and maintainability.
  • Ensure solutions conform to enterprise architecture principles, reference architectures, technology standards, and reusable patterns, and contribute to the evolution of those standards.
  • Design integrations, APIs, and data flows between Digital Solutions applications and enterprise systems (e.g., HR/workforce-planning, project, and functional systems), ensuring interoperability and data integrity.
  • Architect solutions on approved cloud and platform services (e.g., Microsoft Azure), optimizing for performance, resilience, security, and cost.
  • Evaluate and incorporate AI/ML, automation, and emerging technologies into solution designs, and advise on their responsible and appropriate application to M&T use cases.
  • Embed information-security, privacy, and data-governance requirements into all architectures, and ensure designs meet applicable regulatory and quality-management (e.g., ISO) requirements.
  • Assess technology options, products, and vendors; produce architecture decision records, trade-off analyses, and recommendations; and participate in architecture and change-governance reviews.
  • Produce and maintain solution architecture artifacts (diagrams, specifications, and standards) and mentor engineers and analysts on architectural best practices.
  • Support the M&T Head of Digital & AI Strategy and M&T Data and AI Chief Architect with technology roadmaps, feasibility assessments, and estimates that inform portfolio and investment decisions.
