About the role

As the Engineering and Technology Manager at our Blair site, you will lead the technology and engineering efforts supporting both the lactic acid and derivatives operations. In this key site leadership role, you will guide a team, partner closely with operations, maintenance, and quality, and serve as a member of the site management team. On the technology side, you will work with the Corbion OpCos platform and the Operations Service Center to identify, share, and implement best practices throughout Corbion worldwide. On the engineering side, you will identify, scope, and execute capital engineering projects for the Blair plant that improve safety, quality, efficiency, reliability, and cost performance.

Responsibilities

  • Identify and develop process and technology improvement opportunities that support future savings, efficiency, safety, quality, and operational performance.
  • Recruit, lead, coach, and develop the Engineering and Technology team, building capability to meet current business needs while supporting growth and development for team members.
  • Assist your team with and maintain accountability for the successful execution of budgeted capital projects, including final responsibility for negotiating contracts over $50k and approving contracts over $20k for main equipment or contractor services.
  • Develop accurate capital investment estimates, savings projections, and return evaluations to support sound business decisions.
  • Manage capital projects to deliver on approved scope, schedule, budget, safety, quality, and operational requirements.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives and help foster a culture of collaboration, accountability, and proactive problem-solving.
  • Partner with Operations, Maintenance, QESH, Finance, and other stakeholders to ensure projects are safe, maintainable, operable, and aligned with business priorities.
  • Execute QESH standards according to defined roles and responsibilities to ensure personal safety, product safety, and quality.
  • Perform within the guidelines of all Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), security measures, housekeeping, Hazard Analysis & Critical Control Point (HACCP), and all quality, regulatory, environmental, safety, and health guidelines and regulations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in a technical field required; degree in Chemical Engineering preferred.
  • 7+ years’ experience with significant exposure to capital project management and technology projects.
  • 7+ years’ experience in managing/supervising employees.
  • Solid technical and engineering capabilities in process understanding and capital projects design and management.
  • Results-oriented mindset with data-driven process management skills.
  • Extensive problem-solving skills and ability to multi-task in a fast-paced, team environment.
  • Fully proficient in Excel, Word, and AutoCAD.
  • Exceptional leadership, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; must have command of the English language.

Working Environment

The Engineering and Technology Manager is required to work in both office and plant environments, with tasks taking place outside of the office, on site grounds, and in the plant. Appropriate PPE must be worn, including but not limited to hard hats, safety glasses, safety boots, chemical suits, face shields, rubber gloves, and uniform clothing, depending on the task.

Temperature inside and outside the facility will range between -15°F and 120°F depending on location and activities. Occasional travel, including international travel, is required.

Physical Activities

  • Perform moderately heavy physical activity 25% of the time and lift weights up to 50 lbs.
  • Lift or pull heavy objects daily, in excess of 50 lbs.
  • Sit and stand for prolonged periods (20% of the time each).
  • Walk extensively (20% of the time).
  • Kneel, bend, and squat occasionally.
  • Reach above and below the shoulders.
  • Traverse multiple plant levels via stairs frequently.
  • Corrected vision, speaking ability, and hearing are typically involved in performing written and verbal job functions.
