About the role

This position requires extensive experience in the design and operation of Pressurized Water Reactor (PWR) and Boiling Water Reactor (BWR) plants, focusing on primary and secondary systems. The ideal candidate should have a strong background in feasibility studies, equipment reliability, and system modifications and upgrades aimed at enhancing safety and reliability.

Responsibilities

  • Perform calculations, feasibility studies, and engineering evaluations related to nuclear power plant systems.
  • Develop and justify design change packages for quality and safety reviews.
  • Work independently on complex projects, collaborating with other engineers to assess conditions and implement improvements.
  • Interface with equipment vendors to ensure project requirements are met.
  • Evaluate and apply relevant codes and standards, as well as state and federal regulations (including NRC).
  • Communicate effectively with clients, other engineers, and project teams to ensure project success.
  • Present design documents to client review boards and manage multiple concurrent projects.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
  • At least 15 years of experience, with at least 8 years in the commercial nuclear power industry.
  • Experience with PWR and BWR plants, including primary and secondary systems.
  • Knowledge of design, operation, and reliability of nuclear power plant systems.
  • Ability to perform calculations, feasibility studies, and engineering evaluations.
  • Experience in reviewing and checking designs, drawings, and data prepared by other engineers.

Qualifications

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with proficiency in Mathcad, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Effective time management and ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to pass security and drug screening and maintain unescorted access to commercial nuclear power plants.
  • Understanding and compliance with company policies, procedures, and processes.
  • Ability to perform tasks in industrial plant environments, including climbing ladders, accessing secure areas, and entering confined spaces.
  • Preferred: Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET-accredited university, EIT registration.
