About the role
This position involves the design and operation of Pressurized Water Reactor (PWR) and Boiling Water Reactor (BWR) plants, focusing on primary and secondary systems. The ideal candidate should have extensive experience in feasibility studies, equipment reliability, and system modifications and upgrades to enhance safety and reliability.
Responsibilities
- Perform calculations, feasibility studies, and engineering evaluations related to nuclear power plant systems.
- Develop and justify design changes that improve plant performance, safety, and reliability through presentations to quality and safety reviews.
- Work collaboratively with project teams to evaluate conditions and implement design improvements across various disciplines.
- Interface with equipment vendors to ensure alignment with project requirements and specifications.
- Evaluate and apply relevant codes and standards, as well as state and federal regulations, particularly those pertaining to the nuclear power industry.
- Communicate effectively with clients, presenting design documents and justifying modifications during client review board meetings.
- Utilize proficiency in Mathcad, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), and possess strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Manage multiple projects simultaneously, demonstrating effective time management and organizational skills.
- Pass security and drug screening and maintain access to commercial nuclear power plant facilities.
- Comply with company policies, procedures, and processes, including export control compliance.
Requirements
- BS degree in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
- At least 15 years of experience, with at least 8 years in the commercial nuclear power industry.
- Experience with PWR and BWR plants, including primary and secondary systems.
- Knowledge of design, operation, and reliability of nuclear power plant systems.
- Ability to perform calculations, feasibility studies, and engineering evaluations.
- Experience in reviewing and checking designs, drawings, and data prepared by other engineers.
Qualifications
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present design documents to client review boards.
- Proficiency in Mathcad, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Effective time management and organizational skills.
- Ability to pass security and drug screening and maintain access to commercial nuclear power plant facilities.
- Understanding and compliance with company policies, procedures, and processes.
- Overtime work and travel to client sites required, including on-site field/office work and access to industrial plant environments.
- Ability to perform tasks in an industrial plant setting, including climbing ladders, accessing security-controlled areas, and entering confined spaces and controlled hazardous areas.
- Preferred: MS in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET-accredited university; EIT registration.
