Responsibilities

  • Perform a variety of engineering and design activities involving power plant upgrades and/or new power plant projects.
  • Extensive experience with power plant system instrumentation and control strategies, including technical knowledge of legacy equipment and latest digital control systems design.
  • Plan, organize, and prepare modifications independently, evaluating, selecting, and using standards, techniques, procedures, and criteria for technical projects.
  • Familiarity with codes and standards applicable to the nuclear power industry and a working knowledge of applicable NRC regulations.
  • Develop specifications and/or modification packages, define I&C design scope, develop design criteria documents, identify and select control valves and instruments, develop control system functionality, develop control system architectures, and define I/O device interfaces.
  • Manage budget, scope, schedule, and quality associated with the designated work assignment with minimal guidance and technical oversight.
  • Devise new approaches to technical problems with a broad knowledge of precedents in the industry.
  • Interface and coordinate with multiple design disciplines and customer representatives.
  • Evaluate conditions and proposed modifications to improve plant performance, safety, and reliability.
  • Provide mentoring and oversight to entry-level and junior engineers.

Qualifications

  • Education: BS in electrical, mechanical, nuclear, chemical, computer or process/controls engineering from an ABET accredited engineering program that includes course work in analog and digital control systems.
  • Experience: 18 years (minimum) of experience with at least 8 of those years with nuclear power, preferably with digital/analog controls systems is required.
  • Experience: Experience with operating plant procedures, processes, and nuclear plant licensing.
  • Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, proficiency in Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), effective time management skills, ability to comply with company policies, procedures, and processes, ability to pass security and drug screening, and maintain unescorted nuclear plant access.
  • Prioritization: Ability to work on several projects concurrently.
  • Preferred: MS (in one of the degrees noted above in Education Required section) from an ABET accredited engineering program is desirable.
  • Preferred: Experience in the nuclear power industry and actual field experience on nuclear plant projects.
  • Preferred: Professional Engineering registration (PE) is desirable.
