About the Role

Responsible for leading and managing tasks associated with development and management of compliance activities associated with NERC (North America Electric Reliability Corporation) Protection and Control standards (NERC PRC). Also responsible for providing necessary support in implementing, controlling and monitoring activities associated with NERC Cyber – Security (NERC Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP)) compliance.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains compliance documentation and evidence within the company’s database to ensure they are accurate and available for regulatory audits.
  • Coordinates regulatory audit preparation activities to ensure potential non-compliance issues are identified and corrected, which includes support to preparation, critique, and validation of reliability standard audit worksheets (RSAWs) and periodic updating.
  • Develops processes, procedural controls, and implementation mechanisms for achieving and sustaining compliance with all applicable NERC standards requirements.
  • Consults with and trains operational personnel regarding NERC compliance standards in order to maintain an environment of continuous improvement to operations and reliability.
  • Oversees and coordinates all on-site, off-site, and self-certification audits through the collection and dissemination of documents and interaction with company and regulatory personnel.
  • Reviews and processes relay maintenance test results in PowerBase, including verification of asset information, completion of required tests, and timeliness of completion.
  • Provides technical support to transmission operations and/or transmission Maximo in regards to PRC-005, PowerBase, protective system asset information, Craft Advancement Progression Skills (CAPS), and other maintenance and testing related issues.
  • Researches and tests potential security, both cyber and physical, devices to be integrated at Oncor’s Transmission substations to improve security and management of Transmission Bulk Electric System (BES) Cyber Assets.
  • Participates in implementation of processes and procedures to comply with relevant CIP requirements.
  • Participates in the NERC Standards Development Process to ensure the company’s interests are addressed when new standards are proposed or existing standards are revised.
  • Uses sound engineering principles and adheres to business standards, practices, and program/project requirements.
  • Performs all essential aspects and functions of the job as well as any other specific job requirements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science (BS) Degree in Engineering from a university with an accredited engineering program is required.
  • Experience supporting compliance activities, including documentation review, issue tracking, corrective action management, process control development, and verification of compliance with regulatory and organizational requirements.
  • Demonstrated competency in using engineering computer software applications.
  • Engineer 2: plus 2 years of related or similar work experience is required.
  • Staff: 4 plus years of related or similar work experience is required.

  • Safe, secure, and reliable operation of the electric system by implementing standardized protection system test procedures.
  • Meeting NERC compliance requirements affecting Transmission Field Operations, System Protection, and Transmission Engineering.
  • Improvement of maintenance procedures and processes to address NERC compliance documentation requirements for all associated standards.
  • Trainings to Transmission Field Operations, System Protection, and Transmission Engineering to ensure they are well aware of responsibilities for meeting NERC compliance.
