Engineer Sr - Welding

About the Role

We are seeking an additional team member for the supplier development welding engineering group within Department 341 Welding & NDT Engineering – Suppliers and Strategic Sourcing. This group supports Electric Boat suppliers and internal engineering organizations in the welding and fabrication of components used in the construction of nuclear submarines.

Responsibilities

• Review and approval of supplier welding procedures
• Review and approval of weld repairs performed by suppliers
• Provide technical guidance and expertise for construction support, problem resolution, and corrective actions related to supplier welding
• Support suppliers in qualifying new welding procedures
• Evaluate the capabilities and capacity of prospective suppliers
• Maintain company standards, procedures, best practices, and process improvements in welding

Requirements

• Bachelor of Science degree or higher in engineering
• 5+ years of post-graduate related engineering experience

Preferred Qualifications

• Degree in Materials Science or Welding Engineering
• Three or more years of engineering experience in aerospace, defense, heavy fabrication, or shipbuilding applications
• Ability to read and understand component specifications, military specifications, and engineering drawings
• Experience with basic arc welding processes and an understanding of welding metallurgy fundamentals
• Experience with the development and qualification of weld procedures

• Ability to interact with other groups and organizations, including SUPSHIP and NAVSEA customers, in an engineering environment
• Ability to effectively prioritize work and support multiple projects simultaneously
