About the Role
We are seeking an additional team member for the supplier development welding engineering group within Department 341 Welding & NDT Engineering – Suppliers and Strategic Sourcing. This group supports Electric Boat suppliers and internal engineering organizations in the welding and fabrication of components used in the construction of nuclear submarines.
Responsibilities
- Review and approval of supplier welding procedures
- Review and approval of weld repairs performed by suppliers
- Provide technical guidance and expertise for construction support, problem resolution, and corrective actions related to supplier welding
- Support suppliers in qualifying new welding procedures
- Evaluate the capabilities and capacity of prospective suppliers
- Maintain company standards, procedures, best practices, and process improvements in welding
Requirements
- Bachelor of Science degree or higher in engineering
- 5+ years of post-graduate related engineering experience
Preferred Qualifications
- Degree in Materials Science or Welding Engineering
- Three or more years of engineering experience in aerospace, defense, heavy fabrication, or shipbuilding applications
- Ability to read and understand component specifications, military specifications, and engineering drawings
- Experience with basic arc welding processes and an understanding of welding metallurgy fundamentals
- Experience with the development and qualification of weld procedures

- Ability to work both independently and as part of a multi-disciplinary team
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to communicate with technical and non-technical audiences
- Highly motivated, with the ability to function independently and within a multi-discipline team
- Ability to interact with other groups and organizations, including SUPSHIP and NAVSEA customers, in an engineering environment
- Ability to effectively prioritize work and support multiple projects simultaneously
