The Engineering, Science and Analysis (ESA) Strategic Capabilities Unit comprises the technical talent and organizational leadership that enables the successful delivery of high-impact discriminating technologies for our customers’ missions. Responsibilities

  • Serve as the Space Vehicle Chief Engineer or Lead Systems Engineer on a program, acting as the primary technical representative to the company program office, external customers, and partners (including payload, launch, and ground systems providers).
  • Develop and manage the Space Vehicle technical baseline.
  • Lead preparation and execution of major design and readiness reviews.
  • Develop cost and schedule baseline for system engineering activities; perform responsibilities of the Cost Account Manager (CAM) for systems engineering.
  • Work in a dynamic environment with multiple groups, interfaces, and all spacecraft subsystems.
  • Provide leadership to the system engineering staff generating engineering documents, including:
    • Developing the database framework to allocate, trace, and verify requirements through all mission phases.
    • Allocating and flowing system requirements to lower-level specifications.
    • Developing the overall verification plan and approach.
    • Conducting technical trade studies to define system architecture, performance options, and impacts.
    • Utilizing Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) tools and processes to develop, define, and document system architecture, interfaces, and CONOPS.
    • Defining System Integration & Test Plan.
    • Defining System Simulator requirements.
    • Defining System STE and GSE requirements.
  • Serve as the technical authority for risk assessment and anomaly resolution throughout the program lifecycle.
  • Participate in writing proposals and creating and delivering presentations.
  • Contribute to IRADs (Independent Research and Development) and other department initiatives.
  • Develop and coach systems engineers on the Space Vehicle team, including writing performance reviews.
  • Maintain a regular and predictable work schedule.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships within the department, Strategic Business Units, Strategic Capabilities Units, and the company.
  • Interact appropriately with others to maintain a positive and productive work environment.
  • Perform other duties as necessary.

Requirements

  • BS degree or higher in Engineering or a related technical field, plus 8 or more years of related experience. Each higher-level degree (Master’s or Ph.D.) may substitute for two years of experience. Related technical experience may be considered in lieu of education. Degree must be from an accredited institution recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education or U.S. Department of Education.
  • Demonstrated experience in systems engineering processes, including requirements development, allocation, change management, verification, and validation.
  • Experience leading multi-disciplinary teams to meet cost, schedule, and performance goals.
  • Knowledge of missions and customers across core technology areas.
  • Superb presentation skills with experience addressing senior decision-makers and technical audiences.
  • Working knowledge of Earned Value Management (EVM); CAM experience preferred.
  • High emotional intelligence with excellent interpersonal, communication, and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to build and maintain relationships with stakeholders, including engineers, customers, and executives.
  • Strategic planning and problem-solving skills to analyze complex problems and identify creative solutions.
  • Experience developing and executing strategic plans to drive technical innovation and growth.
  • Leadership in talent development and management, including coaching and mentoring engineers.
  • Ability to foster a culture of continuous learning, innovation, and excellence.
  • Collaboration with cross-functional teams (e.g., sales, marketing, product management) to align technical solutions with customer needs and business objectives.
  • Willingness and eligibility to obtain a security clearance or access with Polygraph, if required by program needs, after an offer is accepted.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) expertise is highly desirable.

Work Environment

  • This is an on-site position requiring regular in-person engagement, typically five days per week at the primary work location.
  • Travel and local commute between company campuses and other non-company locations may be required.
  • Work is performed in an office, laboratory, production floor, cleanroom, outdoors, or remote research environment.
  • May occasionally work in production work centers where use of protective equipment and gear is required.
  • May access other facilities in various weather conditions.

Pay

Full-Time Salary Range: $132,962 – $226,035. Individual salaries are determined by factors including, but not limited to, business considerations, local market conditions, internal equity, and candidate qualifications such as skills, education, and experience.
