This position is located at Central Office in St. Paul and may have the flexibility to work a hybrid schedule or work in the office. The incumbent will be required to make a telework arrangement with their supervisor and will be expected to work in the office as determined by policy and discussion with their supervisor.

About the role

This position serves as MnDOT’s liaison with utility companies to coordinate the relocation, reconstruction, or protection of utility facilities impacted by highway construction projects. Key responsibilities include reviewing and certifying project plans for required utility content; identifying affected utilities and determining reimbursement eligibility; and ensuring all notifications, certifications, and documentation are completed prior to letting.

Responsibilities

  • Apply MnDOT policies and procedures, FHWA regulations and policies, AASHTO policies, and Minnesota statutes about the accommodation of utilities on MnDOT right of way and right of way acquisition
  • Apply real estate law as related to legal descriptions and deed forms, knowledge of common utility easement costs, and knowledge of easement valuations and acquisition practices
  • Write documents like memos, letters, and reports

Requirements

  • Experience with highway and structures construction plan review
  • Experience with utility facility design, construction practices, and costs of construction
  • Successful candidate must pass past-employer reference checks and criminal history check

Qualifications

Engineer Senior Qualifications:

  • Licensure as a professional engineer with the Minnesota Board of Architecture, Engineering, Land Surveying, Landscape Architecture, Geoscience, and Interior Design (AELSLAGID) or ability to obtain licensure through reciprocity. (If obtaining licensure through comity (reciprocity), a practice pending letter from AELSLAGID must be provided to MnDOT HR prior to starting employment.)

Engineer 2 Graduate Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET-accredited college or university AND two years of post-graduation civil engineering work
  • A Master’s degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited college/university or equivalent AND one-year post-graduation civil engineering work
  • A passing score on the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam

Pay

$38.39 - $56.48 / hourly; $80,158 - $117,930 / annually

Schedule

  • Full-time
  • Day Shift: Monday - Friday
  • Regular/Unlimited position
