About the role

This examination will establish an eligible list for the Public Works Department from which immediate appointment(s) will be made for a candidate who possess either a valid Engineer-in-Training (EIT) Certificate or current registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) in the State of California.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate applicants' training, education, experience, interest and personal fitness for the position.
  • Conduct examinations based on investigation, oral exam and/or rating of the application.
  • Ensure applicants attain at least a 70% score on each phase of the examination process.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil, Geomatic, Mechanical or Architectural Engineering or directly related engineering discipline or Architecture or Geology, OR 120 units or 180 quarter units from an accredited college or university with coursework in Civil, Geomatic, Mechanical or Architectural Engineering or directly related engineering discipline or Architecture or Geology
  • Possess a valid State of California Engineer In Training (E.I.T.) Certificate, or Land Surveyor In Training (L.S.I.T.) Certificate, OR Valid Registration/Licensure in the State of California as a Professional Engineer, Geologist, Land Surveyor or Architect
  • Valid Registration in the State of California as a Professional Civil Engineer
  • Valid Registration in the State of California as a Professional Traffic Engineer
  • Licensure in the State of California as a Land Surveyor, Architect or Registered Geologist
  • Possession of a valid California Driver’s License

Benefits

The salary range for this position is $3,555.45 - $4,249.09, bi-weekly for Engineer and $3,928.42 - $4,694.83, bi-weekly for Senior Engineer. Additional benefits may be available through the Public Works Department.

  • Admittance to the examination will require a valid government issued photograph identification.
  • Applicants who are unable to present proper identification must make arrangements with the Human Resources Division prior to the test date.
  • A background check may be conducted for this classification.
  • Following an offer of employment, you may be required to submit to post offer medical and drug screening tests at County expense.
